The oldest wheel

In Slovenia, near Ljubljana, among the remains of a pile settlement in a swamp, an ancient wooden wheel was found. Carbon-14 dating shows the age of this oak and ash piece as between 5100 and 5350 years.

The previous record was held by two wheels found in Switzerland and southern Germany, they are 5000 years old. The diameter of the Slovenian wheel is 140 centimeters, the thickness is 5 centimeters. An oak axle was found nearby, on which, apparently, two such wheels were mounted.

The oldest images of wheels are known from Mesopotamia, they are about 6000 years old, but the originals themselves have not yet come across to archaeologists.

Intel Alder Lake-HX mobile processors 16.05.2022

The line of 12th generation Intel Core mobile processors was officially replenished with the Alder Lake-HX family the day before. These CPUs are designed for use in top gaming laptops and workstations, support overclocking and can offer up to 16 cores: eight high-performance Golden Cove and eight energy-efficient Gracemont.

Intel Alder Lake-HX processors use the same die as desktop 12th generation Core chips (Alder Lake-S). The main differences are in the BGA-performance, less "voracity" and, as a result, reduced operating frequencies. For Alder Lake-HX, a Processor Base Power of 55W at 157W Maximum Turbo Power is claimed, while for desktop counterparts these parameters reach 150W and 241W, respectively.

The flagship Intel Core i9-12950HX features 16 cores, 30MB L3 cache, 32 EU integrated graphics, a dual-channel DDR5-4800/DDR4-3200 memory controller, and Turbo Boost speeds up to 5,0GHz.

In terms of functionality, the system logic set for the Alder Lake-HX CPU is not inferior to desktop counterparts. In total, the new mobile platform provides 48 PCI Express lanes: 16 PCI-E 5.0 lanes, 20 PCI-E 4.0 lanes, and 12 PCI-E 3.0 lanes. There is support for Wi-Fi 6E (Gig+) wireless networks, eight SATA 6 Gb / s ports and a dozen USB 3.2, but there is no integrated Thunderbolt 4 controller.
