Classical light emitting elements are arranged in such a way that the light emitting layer is enclosed between two electrodes that supply power. For light sources in the form of filaments and fabrics made from such filaments, such a structure is not the best fit. Scientists from the Republic of Korea were able to get around this limitation and created a luminous textile with electrodes inside the luminescent layer.

It would be tempting to produce garments, advertising posters and other items made from materials like fabrics using woven light structures. The traditional representation of light-emitting elements clearly does not contribute to this.

A group of scientists from the Korean Institute of Science and Technology Daegu Gyeongbuk (DGIST) set themselves the task of developing a flexible luminescent device in which the electromagnetic field that excites the glow would not propagate perpendicular to the electrodes, but along the plane in which they are located. Also, this design made it possible to hide the power supply electrodes inside the luminescent layer and not block the surface of the light-emitting device.

The flexible luminescent textile developed by the group is a film of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and zinc sulfide (ZnS) with flexible conductive electrodes embedded in the layer. Such a film, firstly, has mechanoluminescence (it glows from mechanical influences) and, secondly, electroluminescence (it glows when power is applied to the electrodes, between which an electromagnetic field arises).

Prototypes of luminous fibers and fabrics made from them showed high luminescence efficiency and sufficient mechanical strength. But when this technology can be sent to commercial production is not specified.

Samsung 3,2TB NVMe SSDs with 3D V-NAND Technology 01.10.2014

Samsung Electronics announced the start of mass production of 3,2TB NVMe PCIe SSDs based on 3D V-NAND (Vertical NAND) flash technology for premium enterprise server systems. The new NVMe PCIe SM1715 SSD uses Samsung's proprietary 3D V-NAND technology in an HHHL (half standard height, half standard length) card-type form factor to deliver 3,2TB of storage capacity, twice that of of the previous NVMe SSD model, which had a capacity of 1,6 TB, Samsung told CNews.

Model SM1715 will be available on the market in two versions: 1,6 TB and 3,2 TB. This model expands the 2,5" NVMe XS1715 SSD line-up to include 800GB and 1,6TB versions.
