Sony stops production of CRT TVs in Japan

In accordance with the second stage of the planned restructuring plan, presented in May, Sony plans to completely suspend the production of CRT TVs in Japan by mid-2004.

2 factories in Inazawa (Aichi Prefecture) and Mizanami (Gifu Prefecture) will be converted to the production of LCD TVs and other flat screen devices. Sony plans to invest 300 billion yen to restructure its electronics business.

The company's goal is to increase operating profit to 2006% by fiscal year 31 (which ends March 2007, 10) from the current 4%.
