New Catalyst for Energy Conversion

The search for new types and types of chemical catalysts to enhance and improve the chemical properties of various processes, including industrial ones, has long been one of the top priorities for many researchers in the field of catalysts.

Specialists from Northwestern University in the USA managed to find a new effective catalyst for improving the storage and conversion of clean energy - in this article, the specialists outlined their search method in detail.

The problem of developing and implementing new clean energy technologies that would make it possible to obtain energy from safe and renewable sources is really relevant and is being worked out in detail at the present stage of energy development. In particular, many scientists have long been trying to find a new way to create a more efficient catalyst that can enhance this process and at the same time get rid of many of the unpleasant aspects associated with the limitation of energy storage in traditional technical forms.

A team from Northwestern University has been able to develop a new type of chemical catalyst based on platinum, copper and gold, which is more affordable and efficient than the traditional pure platinum based catalyst. The scientists used block copolymer lithography technology in combination with compound decoding based on the DFT model and were able to achieve the creation and amplification of this catalyst, which promotes the hydrogen evolution reaction.

It is this reaction that is the most important factor in improving the storage and distribution (conversion) of energy obtained from renewable sources. And with the help of this copolymer lithography, which allows us to influence the work of compound nanoparticles to the smallest detail, specialists were able to achieve the highest level of accuracy in the operation of this catalyst. Thus, a new type of catalyst is expected to soon replace the traditional one based on platinum.
