LIS2DTW12 - low noise accelerometer with integrated temperature sensor

28.04.2019

The LIS2DTW12 is a 2-axis accelerometer and temperature sensor from STMicroelectronics, belonging to the LIS2Dxx MEMS sensors of the femto family. The LIS12DTWXNUMX is built on the proven and mature manufacturing processes already used to manufacture micromachined accelerometers.

The MEMS sensor has user-selectable full scales of +-2g/+-4g/+-8g/+-16g and is capable of measuring accelerations at sampling rates (ODR) from 1,6 Hz to 1600 Hz. The LIS2DTW12 contains a built-in temperature sensor with 8 to 12 bit resolution, typical accuracy of 0,8°C, and an ODR ranging from 50 to 1,6 Hz. The sensor has a built-in 32-level first-in-first-out (FIFO) buffer that allows the user to accumulate data to reduce the load on the host processor.

The built-in mechanical self-test functionality allows the user to test the functionality of the sensor in the end application. The device has a special internal mechanism to process accelerations in 3 axes to detect certain conditions - given acceleration, including free fall, start of movement, single or double click recognition, activity detection and 6D/4D orientation.

The LIS2DTW12 is available in a miniature 2x2mm (LGA) package and is guaranteed to operate over an extended temperature range of -40 to +85°C.

LIS2DTW12 features:

ultra-low power: 50 nA in low power mode, less than 1 µA in active low power mode;
very low noise level: up to 1,3 mg RMS in low power mode;
built-in temperature sensor 0,8°C (typ. accuracy);
several modes of operation with different bandwidths;
supply voltage from 1,62 to 3,6 V;
high speed I?C/SPI digital output interface;
single data transformation on demand;
16-bit accelerometer data output;
12-bit temperature data output.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

The firmware of the multimedia system improves the level of sound insulation of the car 22.10.2013

QNX Software Systems, bought three years ago by Canadian smartphone maker Research In Motion (now known as BlackBerry), has developed a software tool for noise reduction in car interiors. Technology called QNX Acoustics for Active Noise Control eliminates unnecessary noise that comes from a running engine, wheels while the car is moving and other objects from the outside.

This feature is built into infotainment systems, including those already used by drivers. According to the developers, a simple firmware update (without installing any equipment) will reduce the noise level inside the car by up to 20 decibels. This corresponds to a barely audible whisper of a person at a distance of one meter.

By using a software solution from QNX Software, automakers can save about $60 per vehicle by implementing Active Noise Cancellation systems, which are now used in luxury cars.

The principle of their work is approximately the following. When the computer registers an increased noise level, it generates the same signal in antiphase and feeds it into the cabin through the speakers of the audio system. Thus, the impact of unpleasant noise on passengers is practically eliminated.

QNX Acoustics for Active Noise Control works in a similar way: by analyzing sounds using microphones placed in the cabin, the technology sends an "anti-noise" signal through the speakers.

Another advantage of the new development, its creators call versatility. It can be installed in multimedia systems based on various hardware and software platforms. Moreover, the head unit may not have an operating system at all. Technology integration is carried out at the level of digital signal processors (Digital Signal Processor, DSP) or application processors (Application Processor).
