Flexible and translucent perovskite LED

In recent years, the study of the properties and the search for applied properties of perovskites, calcium titanate minerals, first found in the Urals about 180 years ago, is gaining popularity among scientists. The developers of solar panels (photocells) made of perovskite went the furthest. The use of sputtering from this material makes it possible to create curved and translucent panels with an efficiency that is noticeably higher than that of conventional silicon. But perovskites, under certain conditions, can also emit photons. It was the combination of the light-emitting properties of this material with flexibility and partial transparency that allowed Korean scientists to create a flexible and translucent perovskite LED.

A group of scientists from South Korea's Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) has unveiled a perovskite-based LED. The developers also created a methodology and tools for studying the bending reliability of LEDs. Experimental development without destruction withstands repeated bending with a radius of up to 2,5 mm. This allows us to hope for the creation of folding displays on screens using PeLED (Perovskite Light Emitting Diode), if any ever appear.

Experienced perovskite LED has good power, brightness and pure color spectrum. Its transparency is 50%. In order for all LED components to be translucent, conductive metal tracks had to be abandoned, which were replaced with silver nanotracks. By the way, the perovskite LED continued to glow brightly both during bends across the plane and when twisted into a spiral.

In the future, scientists plan to study the reliability of perovskites as light-emitting diodes in the form of thin-film structures. This material quickly degrades in the open air (when interacting with oxygen) and in the process of moistening. Experiments should clarify the prospects of using this material for LED production.

Dasung Technology from China has introduced an innovative monitor that combines a color matrix with electronic ink (E-Ink) technology.

This monitor becomes the first in the world to embody the color gamut based on E-Ink technology. The device incorporates a 25,3-inch Kaleido RGB panel inside a slim body.

The display resolution of the monitor is 3200 x 1800 pixels, capable of transmitting 4096 shades of colors.
