Atomic clocks are nothing new - this concept has been around for a long time and is characterized by a really high level of accuracy, thanks to which they have gained a really high popularity among users. However, experts from the National Institute of Standards and Technology today released a report on their new experimental atomic clock with improved accuracy and sensitivity, so that it can detect signals from radiation, Earth's gravity and even dark matter - a property that could play a decisive role in the future course of data development. technologies.

Each of the experimental atomic clocks they have created is a module with thousands of ytterbium atoms arranged in matrix grids in such a way as to keep time by switching between two energy levels. By comparing two or more of these experimental modules, one can improve the systemic stability and sample rate reproducibility. Thanks to him, the best result allows the atoms to release a sharper and more precise vibration, thereby making the frequency of the pulsation even more accurate.

In addition, experts have found that the frequency of their experimental atomic clock changes by 0 during the day, which indicates their undoubtedly more accurate nature. With regard to the study of space and the features of our own planet, an experimental atomic clock can become a really useful and functional assistant that will allow more efficient space calculations.

Stars, according to all textbooks of astronomy, are giant balls of hot plasma. However, French astrophysicists from the University of Nice, using an optical interferometer consisting of several telescopes, found that one of the stars in the southern hemisphere of the sky is not at all spherical in shape.

By measuring the diameter of the star Alpha Eridani (another name given by Arab astronomers is Achernar) in different directions, the astrophysicists obtained the figure shown here. Two variants of the star's shape are calculated, as astronomers are not entirely sure where its axis lies. A star located in the constellation Eridanus is, if a ball, then strongly flattened and beveled: either a melon or a pumpkin.

The reasons for this strange shape are unclear: either Achernar rotates faster than astronomers calculated from the spectrum of the star, or some very unusual processes are going on inside it. This option is not excluded: Alpha Eridanus has an invisible satellite that distorts its shape with its attraction.

The Earth is also flattened, but only slightly: its radius along the equator is less than the radius going to the pole, by only 0,3 percent. In Alpha Eridani, this difference exceeds 50 percent.
