Bill Gates will create a supercow

26.01.2018

Billionaire Bill Gates wants to create a supercow. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation donated about £28 million to British scientists, which is $40 million or more than a billion hryvnias.

An ideal cow should, on average, produce no less milk than European cows, but at the same time it is better to endure the heat for them. For a successful result, experts want to cross European individuals with African ones. The new breed is expected to produce four times as much milk with the same hardiness.

The non-profit organization GALVmed, which is located at the University of Edinburgh, is engaged in breeding supercows. She has been doing research in the field of genetics for a long time. Bill Gates considers the UK a leader in innovation. The billionaire will tell more about the new genetic program at a meeting in Edinburgh.

The founder of the American company Microsoft hopes that the development of cattle breeding will help to overcome poverty and hunger on the planet. At the same time, climatologists deny such a positive effect from increasing milk production.

Two months ago, Bill Gates announced his intention to donate $100 million to the fight against Alzheimer's disease, and his entire fortune is $72,5 billion. If Gates had not been involved in charity work, he would have been twice as rich.

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Space rocket powered by coal 29.05.2023

Official sources from the Chinese Space Corporation reported that the Tianlong-2 rocket (Tianlong-2) launched in April by the private company Space Pioneer ran on aviation kerosene obtained from coal. This was the first such test of a liquid fuel derived from petroleum.

Thus, China is trying to reduce dependence on imported energy resources and ensure fuel security in the aerospace industry. China did not have its own oil (and it was mostly of inadequate quality) and a lot of coal. Coal liquefaction technology has responded to challenges in the supply chains of petroleum products.

According to experts, a possible conflict with Taiwan is guaranteed to lead to a naval blockade of China and blocking oil supplies to the country along the main sea route. The deficit will partially have to be closed with our own resources. Therefore, in China, they began to create lines for the conversion of coal into aviation kerosene of the highest quality.

The Tianlong-2 launch vehicle is equipped with YF-102 engines powered by a kerosene-oxygen liquid fuel pair. This is a promising engine for new Chinese missiles, which can be used in carriers of other companies. The successful launch was preceded by more than 300 fire tests of the engine lasting over 60 seconds. The launch was successful with the launch of the payload into space, which proved the practical value of "coal" fuel.
