A robot attacked a human for the first time

21.11.2016

The first case of a robot sabotaging a person was recorded in the Chinese city of Shenzhen (Guangdong Province, South China) at an IT exhibition. According to the information portal "Sina", Internet users have already dubbed this event "the prologue of the uprising of the machines."

At the exhibition, several hundred companies presented various goods and services in the field of high technologies. The owners of one of the booths presented to the public a small robot, which in its design and size is similar to the world-famous Star Wars hero - R2-D2.

The main purpose of the "droid", as conceived by the creators, was to educate children and entertain visitors. However, for an unknown reason, the unattended robot began to destroy the stand located near it, and when one of the employees tried to stop it, it completely ran over the man’s leg and pressed him.

The mass of the rebellious car turned out to be quite enough to cause serious injury: it is reported that the victim had to call an ambulance, and he could no longer move on his own, and the doctors needed a stretcher to evacuate him.

The developers of the newly-minted "terminator" could not explain the behavior of their offspring. According to them, the robot was intended for games with children from 4 to 12 years old. Internet users began to joke about whether they were witnessing the "beginning of the end of human civilization" and whether they should wait for the appearance from the future of Sarah Connor or one of her offspring, who could "lead the resistance" in the coming war with the machines.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Smartphones ZTE Nubia Z5S and Z5S mini 21.11.2013

ZTE introduced the Nubia Z5S and Nubia Z5S mini smartphones. The devices, in fact, are improved versions of the Nubia Z5 and Z5 mini models. ZTE has kept the dimensions and diagonals of the screens, strengthening the "stuffing".

The flagship Nubia Z5S, the prototype of which bore the proud title of "elite" smartphone, boasts a five-inch Full HD display, Snapdragon 800 platform and 2 GB of RAM. Flash memory is provided 16 or 32 GB. The battery capacity remained unchanged - 2300 mAh. The rear camera has a resolution of 13 megapixels, while the front one has grown to 5 megapixels. Although it is worth noting here that the main camera has learned to shoot video in Ultra HD format. It is also worth noting the appearance of an infrared port. In addition, the novelty supports the 802.11ac standard.

The dimensions of the device remained unchanged - 137,7x68,8x7,6 mm with a mass of 126 g. Apparently, the case was not touched either. A modification with 16 GB of memory will cost about $330, while a smartphone with 32 GB of memory is priced at $570, but it also stands out with LTE support.

The smaller model, Nubia Z5S mini, nevertheless received a thinner body and significantly lost weight: 7,6 mm and 120 g versus 10,3 mm and 162 g. The appearance of the smartphone has also changed somewhat. Diagonal display is 4,7 inches, resolution - 1280 x 720 pixels. The heart in this case is the SoC Snapdragon 600. It is also known about 2 GB of RAM and 16 or 32 GB of flash memory. Whether the novelty supports memory cards is currently unknown.

The smartphone is equipped with a pair of cameras with a resolution of 13 and 5 megapixels, but it cannot shoot 4K video. But, like the older modification, it boasts support for 802.11ac and LTE. By the way, both smartphones are running Android 4.2.2. The younger device is priced at $245 if modified with 16 GB of memory and without support for LTE, while the version with 32 GB of memory and support for 4G networks will cost $350.
