RackStation RS3617xs NAS

11.08.2016

Synology has unveiled the RackStation RS3617xs NAS, designed for rack mounting.

The NAS RackStation RS3617xs is based on a 3GHz quad-core Intel Xeon E1230-2 v3,3 processor. The amount of RAM in the basic configuration is 4 GB, but it can be increased up to 32 GB. The storage is designed for 12 2,5" or 3,5" SATA drives. Their total volume can reach 96 TB, but the presence of two expansion ports allows you to increase the storage capacity up to 288 TB. You can also note the presence of two USB 3.0 ports and two USB 2.0 ports.

Network connectivity is provided by four Gigabit Ethernet ports with aggregation support. It is possible to install expansion cards with additional ports, including 10 GbE. According to the manufacturer, the data transfer rate reaches 3263 MB / s, and the performance is 333941 IOPS in a RAID 5 configuration and 10 GbE ports in aggregation mode. Drives can also be enabled in Basic, JBOD, RAID 0, 1, 6, and 10 configurations.

The RS3617xs runs the DiskStation Manager (DSM) NAS operating system and supports VMware, Citrix and Hyper-V virtualization tools.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Foam instead of conditioner 20.06.2022

An innovative solution for lowering the indoor temperature was proposed by a group of German and Chinese scientists. They have developed a special foam with a high thermal insulation capacity.

In the near future, the era of air conditioners may end. A huge trend in industry will not be applied, so it will cease to exist.

Joint research by German and Chinese scientists led to the development of climate-adapted foam.

The foam is made from modified wood and contains cellulose in the form of nanocrystals. The substance has the property of not transmitting sunlight, and due to its thermal insulation ability, it reflects the absorbed heat into the atmosphere.

During the experiments, scientists applied foam to a cardboard box and placed it on a street site on a hot day. After some time, the air temperature in the box was measured and found to be 9,2°C lower than the outside air temperature.

After confirming the effectiveness of the foam, they tried to apply it to buildings. The result exceeded expectations - the foam completely replaced the air conditioners. The foam allowed saving energy costs, as well as lowering the heating temperature of the cities themselves.

Experiments have shown that covering roofs and exterior walls with foam reduces the need for additional cooling by 35,4%. Thus, foam can become an alternative for cooling rooms in countries with a hot climate.
