The light is on in the brain

01.08.2016

Canadian scientists suggested that neurons are connected to each other not only by electrical and chemical communication systems, but also by photon tunnels.

Neuroscientists from the University of Calgary and the University of Alberta suggest that the neurons that make up our nervous system are capable of emitting photons and providing additional, light communication with each other.

In order to serve as a means of communication, a photon must enter a waveguide that will guide it from the source to the receiver. Using computer simulations, biologists have proven that biophotons can use the myelin sheath of neurons as a waveguide.

Now scientists are trying to answer the question of whether entangled photons exist in the brain. If the answer turns out to be yes, we can assume that our brain is a very powerful quantum computer.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Balluga Bed: smart bed 08.04.2014

The principle of "smart home" is a combination of all electronics into a single system, from functionally advanced light bulbs to microwave ovens and refrigerators with Internet access and other options unusual for this kind of technology. However, the "smart bed" has not yet been included in this list, although a person spends 1/3 of his life on such a well-deserved rest and sleep after a hard day's work.

The developers of the Balluga Bed decided to focus on an extremely important aspect of our lives by presenting a state-of-the-art bed of their own design. It is rather strange that such an idea is not ubiquitous in our time, but looks very conceptual so far. And this despite the fact that the performance and efficiency of a person primarily depends on a comfortable sleep, for the maximum convenience of which it is worth spending a certain amount of money.

British designer Joe Katan decided to take care of the healthy sleep of his future clients and created a bed consisting of small balloons and equipped with many electronic systems. A special feature of the design is the fact that, thanks to the coating of the balls with special foam, the Balluga bed is able to adapt to your weight and height. Using the remote control, you can create the most comfortable surface for relaxation in terms of rigidity and shape.

To justify the well-deserved title of a "smart" piece of furniture, Catan even built a Wi-Fi module into it, giving control of the Balluga Bed to your smartphone. Well, if this is not enough, then no matter how strange it may sound, you can connect to the bed via the LAN port. In addition, all sleep settings are not only automatically stored by the program on your mobile phone, but can be used on other beds from this manufacturer.

Balluga Bed has also acquired all the necessary control systems to ensure a good sleep for its owner. For example, you can set the desired temperature for certain areas on the bed, if you like to "keep your feet warm and your head cold." Sensors built into the bed will monitor compliance with the bed microclimate. The idea to create something similar came to Joe Catan after he suffered enough from sleepless nights on his uncomfortable bed, for which he worked on this project for 8 years. And in order to ultimately combine business with pleasure, the designer decided to diversify the device with pleasant options.

And of course, it would be difficult to imagine a device of this nature without a vibrating mattress. The creator of Balluga Bed approached the implementation of this functional component with full responsibility, so there is even an opportunity to synchronize the vibration of the bed with what is happening on the screen of your favorite console game. Therefore, if after a hard day's work you decide to play without getting up from your favorite resting place, then with every accident on the virtual race track you will be able to feel the effect of the collision in the form of vibration, as they say, with your whole body.

At the same time, such an important component as the safety of a sleeping person was not left without attention. The owner of the Balluga Bed gets not only a built-in entertainment system, but also a whole fire-fighting complex, consisting of smoke alarms and fire detectors.

The gadget bed is priced at $1660 with a 20-year warranty.
