Access to smart home systems from the car

Volkswagen Group and LG Electronics have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly research and develop the next generation networked automotive platform.

The specialists of the two companies will work on the Volkswagen Group's Cross-Over-Platform project, which aims to expand the networking capabilities of cars and improve passenger comfort. The platform, which will be based on the latest developments in the field of cloud technologies, will provide drivers with seamless access to various digital systems, such as "smart home" and services related to determining the user's location, the company said.

Thus, in the coming years, the efforts of the two companies will be focused on developing: technologies for connecting the car with the network capabilities of the "smart home", which will allow drivers to control home systems (lighting, burglar alarms, household appliances) from the car; a context-sensitive clearinghouse to securely provide the driver with real-time information and advice; next generation infotainment system for connected cars.
