Why Men Don't Like Going to Doctors

14.06.2016

Doctors from Orlando (USA) conducted a survey, the results of which compiled a list of the most popular excuses that men use to reschedule their next scheduled visit to the doctor. Today, urologists Jamin Brahmbhatt and Sijo Parekattil from the Clermont Clinic, Florida (USA) are going on a special tour of the United States, during which they are going to talk about why it is important not to skimp on visits to doctors and undergo preventive examinations in a timely manner.

Doctors in Orlando have compiled a ranking of the most popular excuses their patients use to cancel an appointment. The most popular phrase is recognized that in the near future a man will be extremely busy. Further, the strong half admitted that they were afraid to find out that something was wrong with her health. The top three most common answers are closed by the recognition that some medical manipulations carried out during the examination, for example, palpation of the prostate, are shameful.

Jamin Brambhatt said that he often hears something like this. On June 9, he and his colleague Sijo Parekattil will embark on a ten-day science and education tour, during which they intend to educate the public about men's health issues.

"Men can spend 34 hours a day playing golf, or watching football every week, finally taking a trip to Las Vegas with their buddies, but they can't spare 90 minutes a year to get tested? Is that inexcusable ", - said the doctor and social activist Yamin Brambhatt.

Bulletins with recommendations and information about why it is important to undergo preventive examinations in a timely manner will be distributed to everyone who wishes. "Last year we reached about 450 million people, including podcasts, evening radio broadcasts and face-to-face meetings. This year we would like to reach even more people," the authors of the project said.

Doctors note that the average life expectancy of men is at least 5 years shorter than that of women. In addition, among the 10 most common causes of death in the US, 9 are most specific to men.

“These statistics are due to the fact that women in general are much more attentive to their health than men,” said Dr. Brambhatt. “We often use the analogy between our body and cars. Men spend a lot of time on preventive maintenance of their cars: tuning or an oil change, but often for some reason we don't give the same care to our bodies. We have to change that mindset."

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

The nurses will scrub the copper 19.05.2005

Staphylococcus aureus, resistant to antibiotics, was bred by the efforts of doctors and patients who used antibiotics where needed and not needed. It occurs on the skin and on the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity in about a third of healthy people and does not harm them in any way. But in a body weakened by disease, staphylococci can multiply, causing persistent infections of the skin, bones, lungs, or blood poisoning.

According to English statistics, this happens in almost 10% of hospital patients, and the number of deaths in England has increased 1995 times since 15. If we take all cases of staphylococcal infection, including those that ended successfully, then their number increased from 210 to 5309.

University of Southampton professor Bill Keevil, who studies the antiseptic properties of copper, suggests replacing stainless steel in hospitals with copper alloys that are toxic to microbes. Stainless steel is considered the most hygienic and antiseptic material for medical instruments, furniture, plumbing and clinic fittings.

However, as the professor's studies have shown, dried staphylococci can remain viable on the surface of steel for up to 72 hours at room temperature. On the contrary, on brass with a copper content of 55%, microbes survive 4,5 hours, and with a copper content of 99% - only an hour and a half. To reduce nosocomial infections, where possible, stainless steel should be replaced with copper and its alloys.

Previously, Professor Keevil showed that bacteria that cause food poisoning survive for several weeks on stainless steel kitchen utensils, but only a few hours on copper utensils.
