Extreme Camera Olympus TG-Tracker

Olympus has introduced a new action camera TG-Tracker. Features include a detachable handgrip, 204° ultra-wide-angle lens, flip-out display, and XNUMX-DOF Image Stabilizer.

The camera uses a 1/2,3-inch image sensor that captures 8MP photos and 4K (30fps) or 1080 (60fps) movies. The 13,9mm EGF lens has a maximum aperture of F/2,0. The TruePic VII processor is busy processing data in the camera.

Interestingly, the camera is equipped with sensors that allow it to store coordinates, data on the speed and direction of movement, pressure, altitude and temperature. This data can be viewed in conjunction with footage using the free Olympus Image TrackVer 2.0 application.

The camera withstands drops from a height of up to 2,1 m or a load of up to 100 kg, remains operational at temperatures down to -10 ° C, has a dust- and waterproof design (designed for diving to a depth of up to 30 m, meets the IPX8 degree of protection). When shooting underwater, the white balance and other settings are adjusted automatically. It should also be noted built-in flashlight (60 lm) for shooting in the dark.

Yeast can filter lead 05.07.2022

Inactive yeast may be a cheap and effective way to remove lead contamination from drinking water sources, according to a new analysis by scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Research shows that this approach can be effective and cost effective, as just one gram of yeast can remove up to 12mg of lead in less than five minutes!

A team of experts calculated that the yeast discarded from one brewery in Boston was enough to clean up the city's entire water supply.

Lead and other heavy metals in water are a major global problem that continues to grow due to e-waste and emissions from mining. Unlike organic pollutants, most of which can eventually be broken down, heavy metals do not biodegrade but are stored in water indefinitely and accumulated by living organisms. In addition, they are either impossible or very expensive to completely remove by conventional methods (chemical precipitation or membrane filtration).

Lead is highly toxic even at low concentrations. In the body, it enters the brain, liver, kidneys and bones. Subsequently, lead accumulates in the teeth and bones. Lead is especially dangerous for children, it disrupts the functioning of the brain and central nervous system, causing coma, convulsions and even death.

MIT's solution is not new. A process called biosorption, which uses inactive biological material to remove heavy metals from water, has been known for decades. Previously, this method has only been studied for much higher concentrations.

The new study demonstrates that the process can actually work efficiently at much lower concentrations.
