CC3200 - Cortex-M4 microcontroller with built-in WiFi

09.08.2015

The new CC3200 system-on-a-chip from Texas Instruments includes a fully functional WiFi core and a powerful 4 MHz Cortex-M80 microcontroller and a wide range of familiar peripherals. The chip allows you to create complete devices of the Internet of things, using a WiFi network to access the Internet and a variety of wired interfaces to communicate with the outside world.

All resources of the built-in microcontroller are available for the user application - 4-channel 12-bit ADC, 4x16-bit timers, UART, SPI, I2C and SD/MMC interfaces. The multimedia capabilities of the chip include a serial interface for I2S audio transmission and a parallel interface for connecting a video camera. To achieve high data processing speed, the chip has a direct memory access controller (32-channel DMA) and a hardware accelerator for protecting transmitted information - an AES-256 encryption unit.

Applications for CC3200:

Smart home and intelligent building;
Security and access control systems;
Industrial telemetry and wireless sensors;
Wireless transmission of sound and video;
Intelligent power supply networks (SmartGrid);
Access to the Internet and cloud services for any embedded device.

The CC3200 Wi-Fi subsystem includes a separate ARM core that performs all wireless data transfer tasks in a transparent mode for the user and does not require the resources of the Cortex-M4 microcontroller, which is completely at the disposal of the developer. From this point of view, the CC3200 can be viewed as a CC3100 chip to which an external microcontroller with a Cortex-M4 core was simply added. The CC3200 WiFi radio operates in the 802.11 b/g/n standard and can act as both a base station ("distribute the Internet") and act as a client, connecting to any regular WiFi router. The air speed is up to 72 Mbps, while the real data transfer rate reaches 12 Mbps in TCP connection mode.

The CC3200 differs from other similar solutions by supporting a larger set of secure WiFi network connection modes and provides a reliable secure connection based on TLS/SSL protocols.

The undoubted advantage of the CC3200 is the ecosystem created by Texas Instruments, which includes Wi-Fi and TCP / IP protocol stacks built into the chip, inexpensive debugging tools, sample programs for typical WiFi tasks, and open development of finished WiFi devices for which a complete schematic, list of elements, PCB layout and source code of the executable program.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Electronic helmet for truck drivers 14.04.2024

Road safety, especially for drivers of heavy construction equipment, is a top priority for engineers and scientists. In light of this, the German Fraunhofer Institute for Structural Strength and System Reliability has introduced a new product - an electronic helmet, which is designed to protect drivers from serious injury when driving construction vehicles. A new electronic helmet developed by a team of engineers from the Fraunhofer Institute opens up new perspectives for the safety of truck and construction equipment drivers. The device is capable of monitoring the level of shaking in the car cabin and warning the driver of possible danger. The basis of the helmet's operation is a built-in piezoelectric sensor, which generates electricity during physical deformation. This mechanism allows the device to respond to intense vibrations typical of construction equipment. When the level of deformation exceeds safe values, an alarm system is activated on the helmet, ... >>

Antivitamins instead of antibiotics 13.04.2024

The problem of bacterial resistance to antibiotics is becoming increasingly serious, posing a threat to the effective treatment of infections. In light of this, researchers are looking for new ways to combat superbugs. One of the promising directions is the use of antivitamins that can have an antibacterial effect. Antivitamins, although known as the opposite of vitamins, have proven to be a promising tool in the fight against bacterial antibiotic resistance. A study conducted by scientists from the University of Göttingen in Germany confirmed their potential in creating new drugs to combat dangerous infections. With the rise of antibiotic-resistant superbugs, there is a need to find alternative treatments. Antivitamins are molecules similar to vitamins, but capable of inhibiting bacterial activity without harm to the human body. At the moment, science knows only three antivitamins: rose ... >>

Ralph Lauren smart polo shirts 28.08.2014

Wearable technology has become a hot trend these days. Almost all well-known manufacturers of mobile devices have mastered the production or plan to start supplying fitness trackers, smart watches or other devices in the near future that allow you to track physical activity, as well as monitor vital signs of the human body.

For a company like Ralph Lauren, entering this market has its own specifics, as it literally produces "wearable" products, including shirts, trousers, shorts.

Ralph Lauren recently created the smart Polo Tech polo shirt with fitness tracker features. With built-in silver thread sensors, the Polo Tech shirt monitors a range of activity metrics, including heart rate, respiration rate, stress levels and energy expenditure. The project involves the Canadian company Omsignal, which has created its own platform for collecting information about the physiological activity of the human body using sensors in clothing and a smartphone application.

On the left side of the shirt is a "black box" that accumulates information, which is then transferred to the cloud storage. You can read this information using the smartphone app. The "black box" also has an accelerometer and a gyroscope.

Technological shirt Polo Tech plan to test at the US Open tennis tournament, which recently started in the US. Boys picking up balls will wear such shirts. In addition, tennis player Marcos Giron will wear this shirt to practice.
