Nokia camcorder for capturing panoramic video

30.07.2015

Nokia has introduced a camera for shooting panoramic video - Ozo. The company itself called it "a camera for virtual reality." The company claims that this is the first completed device of this kind on the market. It is equipped with eight sensors and eight microphones, arranged in such a way as to capture a panoramic image and sound (almost 360 degrees around the operator). At the back, the device has a hand for attaching a standard tripod and connectors for connecting equipment.

Ozo is designed to work with industry standards and existing systems without restrictions. For example, a XNUMX-degree video taken with a camera can be viewed with an Oculus helmet and posted on YouTube. No proprietary video recording formats are used here, Nokia representatives told The Verge at a product presentation in Los Angeles.

Nokia claims that this is the first product of its kind on the market - and for Nokia, respectively, too. Ozo has some special features. Firstly, this is the first device that allows you to see the signal from the sensors in real time - the role of the viewfinder can easily be played by an Oculus Rift connected to the camera or another virtual reality helmet. The operator puts it on his head and sees the picture in the format in which it will be in the end.

Secondly, Ozo does not require compilation, combining video signals into a single picture, as all previously released similar solutions required, Nokia said. The processor and specialized software built into the camera perform this task independently. And the operator just needs to upload the finished video and start playing it on a suitable device. The whole process takes a few minutes, whereas previously it took hours to process the video before viewing it.

Thus, Nokia expects Ozo to set the standard for capturing, processing and playing content for virtual reality. Ozo is not designed for private users. The main buyers of the device will be Hollywood studios, the media, digital content developers and advertising agencies. When asked by The Verge how much the camera would cost, Nokia said the price would be "in the middle of the double digits".

At the moment, Nokia is preparing to launch the production of Ozo. The device will be produced in Finland. Who will assemble it - the company did not specify (Nokia itself does not have production facilities). It is planned to start selling the camera in the fourth quarter of 2015.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

8-core mobile processor from Samsung 13.01.2013

Samsung at CES 2013, which opened in Las Vegas on January 8, announced the Exynos 5 Octa mobile processor, which has eight processing cores.

Exynos 5 Octa can be used in tablets and smartphones. While developing the processor, Samsung focused on multitasking and boosting 3D graphics performance, but tried to reduce the power consumption of the chip, company officials said. Energy savings are achieved through the use of two groups of cores in the processor. One group contains four cores on the Cortex-A15 architecture, and the second group contains four cores on the Cortex-A7 architecture. The first group of cores is used to perform resource-intensive tasks, and the second - for tasks that do not require large computing power.

The Exynos 5 Octa is manufactured on a 28nm process, as is Nvidia's 77-core Tegra 4 processor, also unveiled at CES 2013. The Tegra 4 chip contains four Cortex-A15 cores and a fifth "companion core" that functions similarly to cores from the second group in Exynos 5 Octa. In addition, Tegra 4 has 72 more graphics cores. Processors from the Exynos family are based on the ARM architecture. They are used in Samsung and Meizu smartphones and tablets. The Korean company develops chips independently.
