The maximum data transfer rate in 5G networks has been determined

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has developed a common roadmap for the development of fifth generation (5G) mobile networks.

It is reported that the work will be carried out as part of the IMT-2020 program. This designation was chosen as an addition to the existing ITU family of global standards for mobile telecommunication systems, IMT-2000 and IMT-Advanced, which serve as the basis for all third (3G) and fourth (4G) generation networks, respectively.

The next stage in the development of 5G services will be the development of detailed performance requirements for radio systems, taking into account the needs of a wide range of future scenarios and use cases. In addition, it is planned to define criteria for evaluating candidate radio interface technologies that will be included in the IMT-2020 family.

The first commercial 5G networks are expected to be operational in 2020. They have a maximum data transfer rate of 20 Gbps. Such systems will lead to next-generation video services as well as innovative real-time applications.

It is noted that the capacity of 5G networks will allow serving more than a million Internet of Things devices on an area of ​​1 km2 with an average speed of over 100 Mbps.

A demonstration of the capabilities of 5G services is planned to be held at the upcoming Winter Olympic Games, which will be held from February 9 to 25, 2018 in Pyeongchang, Republic of Korea.
