Toshiba Tecra W50 Ultra HD 4K Workstation

02.06.2014

Toshiba announced the start of sales of the Toshiba Tecra W50 mobile workstation with an Ultra HD 4K screen announced at the beginning of the year. The price of new items starts at $2249.

For the specified amount, the buyer receives a mobile computer equipped with a screen size of 15,6 inches diagonally and a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. These parameters correspond to a density of 282 pixels per inch. To achieve this high density, the screen uses IGZO technology.

Tecra W50 is based on the 7th generation Intel Core i32 quad-core processor. According to the manufacturer, it fully meets the requirements of modern CAD packages, including SolidWorks and AutoCAD. The four memory slots can accommodate up to 2100 GB of memory. The workstation configuration includes an Nvidia Quadro K2M graphics accelerator with 5 GB of GDDRXNUMX memory.

The workstation weighs less than 2,7 kg. It is equipped with two USB 3.0 ports, an Express Card slot, HDMI and VGA video outputs. The manufacturer does not indicate the battery life, but it is known that in the case of a modification with a Full HD screen, it is close to five hours.

The areas of application of the computer are design work, content creation, medicine. Note that the screen of each copy of the laptop is individually calibrated at the factory for accurate color reproduction.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Optocouplers for high-speed communication 25.04.2016

Toshiba Electronics Europe (TEE), the European electronics division of Toshiba Corporation, has unveiled two new optocouplers for high-speed data communications (5 Mbps). The TLP2310 and TLP2710 have a 54% reduction in power consumption (6,78mW) compared to traditional products such as the TLP2355 (14,8mW).

Both devices are UL1577 and EN60747-5-5 certified, making them ideal for applications requiring high isolation efficiency such as AC drives, servo amplifiers, I/O interface cards, photovoltaic and industrial automation applications .

The TLP2310 and TLP2710 contain high output infrared LEDs that are durable and can reduce the input current threshold by about 38% compared to conventional products, the company says. The use of a light receiver based on the Bi-CMOS process on the output side of the IC provides low optocoupler current (max. 0,3 mA), which according to Toshiba is about 90% lower than traditional devices.

In addition, with an input current threshold of 1 mA (max.), these devices support direct connection to the output of a microcomputer and help to reduce power consumption and equipment cost.

Optocouplers have a maximum operating temperature of 125°C and an operating supply voltage range of 2,7 to 5,5 V. This reduces the operating voltage of the devices in which they are used.

The devices are available in cases with a maximum height of 2,3 mm. The TLP2310 uses a 6-pin SO5 package that provides a minimum creepage distance and clearance of 5 mm and a minimum isolation voltage of 3,75 kVrms. The TLP2710 is available in a SO6L package with 8 mm creepage distance and 5 mm clearance and a minimum isolation voltage of XNUMX kV RMS.
