Sharp 4K TV Recorder

25.05.2014

Sharp Corporation introduced the industry's first recorder for recording and playback of ultra-high definition (4K) television content. The novelty is called Aquos TU-UD1000.

A 4K test broadcast will be held in Japan on June 2. The project is supported by the Next Generation Television & Broadcasting Promotion Forum (NexTV-F), a consortium that includes dozens of companies including Fujitsu, Sony, Japan Broadcasting Corporation, KDDI, NEC, Toshiba, Panasonic and Sharp.

The Aquos TU-UD4 uses a 1000TB hard drive to store 1K footage. This volume is enough to record approximately 50 hours of ultra-high resolution material (3840x2160 pixels).

The recorder is equipped with a TV tuner, Gigabit Ethernet network controller, HDMI and USB interfaces. Dimensions are 430x236x68 mm, weight - approximately 3,3 kg.

The recorder will go on sale on June 25 at an estimated price of $1200. The initial production capacity will be 2000 pieces per month.

Note that the 4K TV market is growing rapidly. According to forecasts, shipments of such panels this year will be from 15 to 20 million units. The share of 4K devices in the total sales of TV panels can reach 10%. In the next five years, experts predict the rapid growth of this market. Demand for 4K panels by 2018 will grow by 68,4 million devices.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

True curved touch display 23.12.2013

Apple has patented curved touch screen technology. US Pat. No. 8603574 "Curved Touch Panels" describes a process for making displays free of defects that are caused by deformation of the screen substrate.

At the same time, the document describes not only the production of touch displays for mobile devices, but also for desktop computers, computer mice, etc.

According to Apple, the main problem in the manufacture of such panels is to maintain a certain temperature when applying thin-film conductors to a flexible substrate. Heating should not be large so that the structure is not damaged. Manufacturers are now using high temperatures to produce panels with better optical properties and better responsiveness by applying a touch film onto a pre-shaped substrate.

Apple's idea is to apply display elements to a flexible substrate while it is flattened. After that, the whole structure is heated to the required temperature, and it is given the desired shape. This technology helps to avoid typical damage that occurs during the production of displays.

In addition, the patent notes that many modern devices with a so-called "curved" display actually have an ordinary flat display, covered with curved glass on top. This technical solution leads to the fact that the touch panel becomes less sensitive, since its different parts are at an unequal distance from the glass. Apple envisions displays that are truly curved, with equal sensitivity in the middle and around the edges.

The patent also describes the process of creating touch displays that have a more complex shape, such as waves. True, today it is not known when and how Apple will apply its patent in practice for the production of real products.
