Cost-Effective Bluetooth IC for Smart Devices

21.03.2014

Toshiba Electronics Europe (TEE) has launched Bluetooth integrated circuits (ICs) that support Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)1. The new IC TC35667FTG will find its application in a variety of wearable medical smart devices and sensors, as well as smartphone accessories, remote controls and toys.

The number of Bluetooth Smart2 devices supporting Bluetooth LE in various applications is growing rapidly. The new IC uses an original low-power design and a high-efficiency DC/DC converter to reduce peak current consumption to 6mA or less and sleep mode consumption to 100nA or less.

In addition, the TC35667FTG includes an ARM processor that allows loading and executing user programs stored in EEPROM memory. The processor supports application customization and eliminates the need for an external microcontroller. The receiver has a sensitivity of -91 dBm, and the transmitter output power can be varied from 0 to -20 dBm in 4 dB steps.

The 40x6mm QFN6 low power IC package with 0,5mm pin leads enables Bluetooth LE technology to be used in smaller devices, helping to extend battery life. The IS supports server and client functions defined using the Generic Attribute Profile (GATT).

Toshiba plans to expand its line of devices to support the use of Bluetooth Smart devices in cars.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

New controller for flyback converters 24.07.2008

STM has announced a new controller for high quality high power flyback converters that can operate in two modes: fixed frequency or quasi-resonant mode. At low load in both modes, the chip enters a controlled burst-mode state with a low frequency (several hundred Hertz) and a constant maximum current.

This is done in order to minimize the overall power requirements, in accordance with the world's energy-saving recommendations. Small controller current consumption (less than 3mA), built-in non-dissipative trigger circuit, are STM developments that improve chip utilization efficiency. The chip is available in two versions L6566A and L6566B.

The first is specially designed for converters operating through a power corrector. L6566A is able to interact with the corrector, turning it off at low load or short circuits. The L6566B is designed for applications where a power corrector is not used and the chip additionally contains a frequency modulation generator at the input. This provides reduced EMI emission, which reduces the size and cost of the linear filter in fixed frequency mode.

Built-in input and output protection includes overvoltage protection, overcurrent protection, overtemperature protection and undervoltage protection. The L6566 multi-mode controller can be used in AC/DC flyback converters, TV and LCD monitors, DVD players, chargers, set-top boxes and other consumer devices.
