Technology of wireless connections between chips within a chip

28.02.2014

Packing multiple chips into a single package allows for greater integration, but it causes a lot of problems. One of them is the expensive procedure of wired connection of chips to each other. ThruChip specialists have developed a technology for wireless connections between chips within a ThruChip Interface (TCI) chip that can compete with interlayer connections (through-silicon via, TSV) between chips located on top of each other, and wire connections between chips located next to each other.

The idea behind TCI is the inductive interaction of circuits. The most important advantage of this approach is that it can be implemented using standard CMOS technology without any additional costs. The transceiver circuit is built with ordinary transistors, and the antennas are formed from metal conductors - the same as in the rest of the microcircuit. Moreover, you can place the antennas in a convenient part of the crystal.

The company, founded in 2007, has already tested its development on ten test chips. In particular, in one test, signals were transmitted through 128 layers using repeaters. The channel bandwidth reaches 1 TBit/s. Note that these connections are only suitable for data signals, not for power supplied through wired connections.

According to the developers, their technology is suitable for memory and other chips.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Fall protection for your smartphone 14.12.2014

It's no secret that one of the typical reasons for a smartphone to break is an impact when it falls. The screen suffers the most if the device falls on a hard floor with the screen down. Apple offers an innovative method to solve this problem.

Patent? US 8,903,519, filed December 2 by the US Patent Office with Apple, describes a new method of protection against significant drop damage. In the event that an accelerometer or other sensor of a similar purpose detects the beginning of a fall, information about its speed and the orientation of the body of the mobile device will be processed by the processor, which will send a control signal to an electric motor with a moving part that has a displaced center of gravity (its design is similar to a vibration motor). During a fall, the rotation of the electric motor allows you to change the position of the entire mobile device to a safer one. For example, a smartphone can be rotated so that the fall does not fall on the surface of the screen, but on the back of the device.

To make the system more efficient, ultrasonic sensors, gyroscopes, or a combination of microphone and loudspeakers can be used to calculate fall speed, distance to the surface, and time to impact. Mentioned, in addition, the compass, GPS, radar and camera module. Fall information can be stored in the device for analysis and use in future falls to improve the performance of the protective system.
