Workstation 3DBOXX 4170 Xtreme

BOXX Technologies has announced the release of a compact workstation based on an Intel Core i7 processor equipped with Thunderbolt 2 ports. According to the manufacturer, the bandwidth of Thunderbolt 2, significantly increased compared to the bandwidth of the previous version of this interface, allows you to increase the speed of data exchange with external storage and work with uncompressed 4K video. The workstation is available in two versions - with a processor running at the standard frequency (3DBOXX 4170), and with a processor overclocked at the factory (3DBOXX 4170 Xtreme). The detailed configuration is determined by the customer.

The overclocked Intel Core i7 processor is liquid cooled and runs at up to 4,3 GHz. The graphics subsystem may include professional AMD FirePro and Nvidia Quadro series accelerators.

There are four slots for RAM, in which you can install up to 32 GB of DDR3-1600 memory in a dual-channel configuration. The disk subsystem can include HDDs up to 4TB and SSDs up to 600GB.

The equipment includes eight USB 3.0 ports, two Gigabit Ethernet ports, an 802.11ac wireless adapter, and ten SATA 6 Gb / s ports.

The price of the basic configuration is approximately $4200.

Plastic that can be endlessly recycled 10.10.2022

American scientists have developed a plastic that does not degrade when repeatedly recycled. This was reported by the press service of the University of Colorado in Boulder.

Plastic waste poses a huge danger to the environment due to the fact that it practically does not decompose and serves as a source of microplastics that poison people and animals. Almost all types of plastics, including PET, are recyclable, but unlike metals, only a few times. In addition, the quality of the product decreases with each cycle.

Zhang Wei came up with a plastic that practically does not degrade during recycling. The formation and degradation of the polymers of which it is composed are almost equally easy. The created polymer belongs to the class of polycyanurates, they have high strength, but are difficult to decompose.

American chemists have found that this property of polycyanurates can be eliminated by replacing some of the carbon atoms with nitrogen and forcing the remaining carbon atoms to combine with oxygen. As a result of such processing, a new type of single polymer units will appear, which will form strong bonds with each other when heated, but will easily decompose if the plastic is immersed in a hot mixture of alcohol and potassium carbonate solution.

The following tests showed that it is possible to decompose plastic repeatedly and reuse the resulting raw materials, whose chemical composition does not actually change during each recycling cycle.
