Tesla electric car battery quick change

26.06.2013

Electric vehicle maker Tesla has unveiled a long-awaited technology: an automated quick-change battery for electric vehicles. Now the owners of the electric car do not have to wait at the gas station for 5 hours until the battery is charged - the robot will replace it with a charged one in just 90 seconds.

The new technology was personally presented by the famous innovator and businessman Elon Musk. In general, Tesla has long been "teased" with this novelty, in particular, the Tesla Model S electric car initially has a quick-change battery. It remained only to develop the appropriate equipment for refueling. The Americans have chosen a fully automated system for this, which takes even less time to change the battery than it takes to refuel with conventional gasoline.

Initially, Tesla will install the new automated systems at its electric stations along some of the busiest US freeways, specifically on the inter-state roads along the West Coast and on the roads between Washington and Boston. If the tests in the normal operating mode go well, the network of robotic electric filling stations will expand. Apparently, Tesla may well take over the electric gas station market, because whoever deploys it first is likely to force electric car manufacturers to adjust to their standards.

The cost of each automated electric refueling will be about $500, and the cost of replacing the battery (that is, refueling an electric vehicle) Model S will be equivalent to the cost of 000 liters of gasoline - that's $57-50 depending on the region. It turns out that refueling a Model S electric car will be more expensive than a conventional gasoline car, because for the same money you can drive 65-1,5 times more distance in a gasoline car. However, the Model S is actually much more profitable to drive, since an electric car can be charged at home, and a full charge of an 2 kWh battery at regular grid rates will cost a matter of dollars, and you can drive up to 85 km on this cheap charge - more than enough for most trips. In the event that you need to go further, you can use the new robotic electric refueling. The price of replacing a battery can hardly be lower, because the equipment of electric refueling is not cheap, and besides, you have to produce several batteries for one produced car, which in itself requires investments.

It is not yet clear exactly how the batteries will be replaced, because the owners of the new battery will not want to be replaced with an old and "hackneyed" one. Apparently, while it will look like a rental - on the way back, the owner will be able to take his charged battery back. At first glance, this is a complex system, but it must be borne in mind that electric transport has only just begun to develop. In any case, in some countries, electric vehicles are already much more affordable than gasoline cars. For example, the same Tesla Model S in the USA can be taken on credit with a payment of $580 per month (the cost of a car with an 85 kWh battery is $72). Given the savings on gas and maintenance, for many American families, this is even more profitable than newer gas cars.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Armored supercar Aston Martin DB11 14.09.2018

The German company Trasco (abbreviation for Transport Security Corporation) from Bremen has been armoring cars since 1983 and doing it very successfully, but usually heavy SUVs and executive sedans fall into their hands. Now the Germans have built something completely unusual: the Aston Martin DB11 armored supercar, in which you can’t help but feel like James Bond - the legendary agent 007, who in recent films moved just on his native Astons.

The car is armored according to class B4, which provides protection against pistol bullets of caliber from 5,45 to 9 millimeters, as well as shots from a hunting rifle. Such armor is considered relatively light and saves only from an accidental attack by street criminals - unless, of course, they are armed with a Kalashnikov assault rifle. But the supercar almost did not lose in dynamics, because the protection added only 150 kilograms to the curb weight of the DB11.

Reservations are made using sheets of steel and composite materials hidden under body panels, as well as laminated glass. Aston Martin is equipped with a 5,2-liter V12 petrol engine that develops 600 horsepower. This should be enough to hide from the gangsters who decide to profit from your wallet while you are standing at a traffic light.

The cost of an armored supercar is only discussed with a potential buyer, but a standard DB11 starts at $220.
