Toshiba TLP250H optocoupler directly drives a power transistor

Toshiba announced the release of an optocoupler in a DIP8 package capable of directly driving an IGBT or medium power FET. Designated as TLP250H, the peak output current is +2,5A and the input current is less than 5mA. The manufacturer considers a short signal propagation time of 500 ns and an uneven propagation time of no more than 150 ns to the advantages of the novelty. Such values ​​of these parameters help to increase the efficiency of inverter circuits.

In addition, the use of a new optocoupler will help reduce the power consumption of electronic devices, since its operating voltage range has been extended to 10-30 V (the previous model operated at a voltage of at least 15 V).

The Toshiba TLP250H optocoupler is designed for operation in the temperature range from -40°C to 125°C. Among the areas of application of the novelty, the manufacturer names industrial electronics, solar-powered home power supplies, digital electronic devices, and measuring instruments.

Nanostructure based on the moth's eye 07.08.2020

Scientists from the Vietnamese Tan Trao University and the Tai Nguyen Pedagogical University made an interesting discovery. It turns out that there are nanoscale bulges in front of the eyes of moths, the study of which promises many interesting technological advances. These bulges have incredible anti-reflective properties that allow the eye to absorb almost all of the incoming light.

Such a nanostructure will enable the development of a host of devices, from efficient solar cells to advanced X-ray emitters and smartphone displays that reduce glare. However, in addition to the pronounced optical properties, the newly discovered structure has another unique property.

Scientists have managed to build a complex nanostructure out of quartz, modeled on the eyes of a moth. The resulting transparent structure was covered with paraffin in order to isolate it from the influence of cold and humid environment. Then we conducted a series of experiments, observing the operation of the nanostructure.

The unique properties of the material are explained by the presence of many air pockets inside the nanostructure. These pockets are filled with a layer of paraffin on the surface, creating higher freezing temperatures and therefore increasing the freezing time of water droplets on the surface.

One of the main applications of open unique materials is the processing of aircraft wings. As is known, the build-up of ice on the surface of an aircraft wing significantly limits the lifting force of an air liner, and also interferes with the moving parts of the aircraft.

The technology can also find application in power transmission systems. Vietnamese experts have also determined that the discovered unique nanostructure is ideal for optical applications such as eyeglasses. This is obvious given the high transparency and anti-reflective properties.
