The British company "Armstrong Healthcare" reported that she managed to develop the world's first robot for surgical operations. Now you can not be afraid that the surgeon's hand will suddenly tremble during an operation on the human brain.

The robot is able to bring surgical instruments to the operated area of the brain with the highest degree of accuracy, without causing any damage to the surrounding healthy tissues. The neurosurgeon robot can be used to remove brain tumors, treat Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, and even transplant brain cells using the latest techniques.

It is the first robot capable of reading a map of a human skull. Its task is to provide the neurosurgeon with absolute precision in the application of the instrument. It is completely safe and easy to operate; to launch it, it is enough to set a target for the robot and indicate the approach paths on the scanned x-ray image of the patient's brain. The robot has a video camera with which it accurately aligns the scanned image with the desired area on the patient's head. The surgeon makes a small hole in the skull, after which the robot carefully introduces an instrument into it and hits it right on the target indicated to it.

According to the inventors, the widespread use of the neurosurgeon robot will begin after its testing at the Royal Medical Center in Nottingham.

Engineers at the University of Missouri have developed a compact X-ray source that is about the size of chewing gum. This development will create hand-held X-ray machines needed by doctors and security services.

Modern x-ray machines are too bulky and consume a lot of electricity. The new device is based on lithium niobate crystals, which have piezoelectric properties and act as voltage boosters. During the experiments, the new device was able to raise the voltage from 10 volts to 100 thousand volts. The lithium niobate crystal is an X-ray source: vibration energy is extracted in the form of a high-voltage electron beam, which is decelerated by a metal plate and produces X-rays.

The developers believe that in 3 years, based on the new technology, they will be able to create a compact X-ray machine, which is needed in many industries.
