The psychological state of the soldier will show a special marker

American military scientists from the Defense Science Board (DSB) announced that in the coming years, with the help of genomics and biomarkers, it will be possible to pinpoint the critical point, after which the soldier, as they say, "goes crazy" or simply becomes inadequate to act. So far, the only way to prevent such cases is preventive work, but it is still impossible to predict exactly when a person will reach a critical point.

Following the tragedy at Fort Hood, Texas, in which Major Nidal Hassan killed 13 people, in November 2009 the DSB established a task force to investigate the problem of predicting violent behavior. For the first time, ways were outlined for the implementation of this important task, although scientists emphasize that it is still far from reliable forecasting of an outbreak of aggression.

Scientists have created a so-called stress response curve, which shows the performance of a soldier under stress. The graph clearly shows that productivity rises with stress levels, but under pressure, people perform better only up to a certain point. Eventually, stress continues to rise and human productivity levels off. At a certain point, stress reaches a critical point, productivity rushes to zero, and a person suddenly becomes inadequate and, for example, begins to shoot into the crowd with a machine gun.

The report of scientists from the DSB notes that serious cases of inappropriate behavior could have been avoided if qualified data collection could be organized, and if others had at least some knowledge of the signs of a crisis.

According to scientists, there are two ways to solve the problem of inappropriate behavior under stress. First, it is necessary to increase the stress resistance of soldiers, that is, to push back the critical point and ensure efficiency and sanity under serious psychological and physical stress. Secondly, it is worth organizing the collection and analysis of data on human behavior, as well as creating and widely using special sensors that can determine biomarkers of physiological signs of stress. In this case, it will be possible to "pull" a person out of a dangerous situation before he commits an irreparable act.

World's smallest Full HD display 19.07.2018

Sony has announced the world's smallest Full HD reflective display and associated signal processor. The presented platform, so to speak, is intended for the production of portable projectors. Mass production of SXRD241A (SXRD, Silicon X-Tal (crystal) Reflective Display) and CXD3554GG LSIs will start in August. The sample kit will cost approximately $106.

The Sony SXRD241A display has a diagonal of 0,37 inches. To keep the resolution within the specified limits (Full HD), it took about 30% to reduce the size of the pixels. Previous reflective displays for microprojectors had pixel sizes of 6 µm. The latest development consists of 4,25 micron pixels. Also in the new model of the reflective screen, the company implemented the technology of screening the incident light, which always penetrated deep into the sensor and, by its influence on the control transistors, introduced distortions into the image.

Separately, a few words about the capabilities of the CXD3554GG signal processor from the new kit. The control electronics of the processor allows you to automatically adjust the image to the screen relief. Portable projectors based on the new Sony kits can be used both at home and in any other place, and do not care about the surface relief on which the image falls. It will be adjusted as much as possible to convey the correct proportions to the screen, regardless of the curvature of the screen. Also, the processor allows you to create a continuous image for the eye from several projectors standing side by side, automatically creating a panoramic view.

In the future, the company expects to release miniature reflective displays and signal processors with support for 4K resolution.
