In the United States will distribute land for the installation of solar panels

31.07.2012

US officials have issued a statement that large land plots will be identified in the US in the near future, which will be used for "green" energy. The government allocated funds from the country's budget for the development and mass installation of solar panels.

According to officials, solar power can and should be used in six southwestern states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah. These regions, according to politicians, are the most favorable for the installation of solar panels, and the weather conditions in them will allow the most efficient use of solar cells to generate electricity. According to the official report, the above states "have excellent solar resources, good potential for energy transmission", and the solar panels that are planned to be installed in them "have no negative impact on biological, natural, cultural and historical resources."

The decision to release public land for the installation of solar panels was made after the results of research published by the Center for American Progress, according to which only 1% of the total amount of renewable energy in the United States is installed in these states. “The development of solar energy in the United States is one of the directions that President Obama takes when he talks about expanding electricity production, improving energy security and creating new jobs. We plan to distribute some of the public land that is best suited for solar energy and simplify the process permitting the installation of solar panels will be an additional incentive for families to use renewable energy as well as for businesses," said US Secretary of Energy Steven Chu.

The website of the US Department of the Interior indicates that a total of 285 thousand acres of public land will be given for the installation of solar panels. If all goes according to plan, then in the next few years, about 7 million American families will receive electricity from the sun.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Wide-gap semiconductors for automobiles 27.09.2013

GaN Systems presented a paper on new wide-gap semiconductors and their role in automotive power electronics at the Electric & Hybrid Vehicle conference and exhibition, which was held in Michigan (USA) September 17-19.

Electric vehicle manufacturers slated to enter the market in 2018 predict that gallium nitride semiconductors will reach price parity with silicon devices by that time. This will make the technology attractive as a replacement for silicon in the power electronics of electric and hybrid vehicles.

"EVs and hybrids house a lot of power electronics - battery management, backup power, brakes, valve timing, cruise control, safety systems, instrumentation clusters. And all of these systems suffer from limitations imposed by silicon that doesn't switch fast enough or can't handle high temperatures," said Girvan Patterson, CEO of GaN Systems.

"A new generation of gallium nitride and silicon carbide semiconductors overcomes these challenges, and they are also lighter, smaller and easier to package. These new devices will lead to significant improvements in automotive power electronics and provide significant opportunities for the industry," Patterson said. .

Julian Styles, director of business development at GaN Systems, gave a presentation explaining the technological advantages of semiconductor materials, which he believes will lead to the replacement of traditional silicon in the power converters of a new generation of electric and hybrid vehicles. Stiles explained what he sees as the advantages of high-bandgap power semiconductors based on gallium nitride. Among them are greater efficiency, weight reduction and lower cost of power electronics for electric and hybrid vehicles.
