Flexible working hours of employees is beneficial for the company

Polycom Corporation published the results of a study conducted among 400 top managers in Russia, Great Britain, France and Germany. 66% of those surveyed said that providing flexible working hours provides more opportunities for savings than reducing operating costs.

European companies claim that if remote work is provided, the productivity of employees increases by 40%. At the same time, they note that the profit of the organization by 50% depends on the productivity of its employees. Around 60% of the surveyed companies provide an opportunity for their employees, who are in the office or working remotely, to communicate using interactive HD video solutions. 72% of respondents say that this opportunity helps to improve the efficiency of the company.

"At our company, flexible working hours to empower employees and improve their productivity have long been a daily norm," says Andrew Mutty, senior vice president of operations and customer service at mBlox. With video services deployed in London, Singapore and California, we will be able to interact freely with our counterparts anywhere in the world during the 2012 Olympics."

For employees of companies, flexible working hours have many advantages: such an organization of activities allows people to achieve a balance between work and personal life, and also helps to reduce travel costs and save time. Two-thirds of those surveyed (67%) say that by working flexible hours, they work more efficiently and feel more satisfied with their work.

Today, flexible work is widespread in Europe, with 77% of organizations surveyed offering flexible working hours to employees, and 68% regularly allowing employees to work away from the office.

A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. supercomputer on the moon 16.10.2012

Uliang Chang, a graduate of the University of Southern California, believes that placing a supercomputer on the moon can solve many of the problems of space exploration.

Chang announced his idea at a conference in Pasadena, California dedicated to space exploration. The plan is to install a powerful supercomputer in one of the deep, dark craters on the far side of the moon. The advantage of such placement is that the supercomputer would be shielded from humanity's electromagnetic noise by the Moon. A powerful computer powered by an atomic or solar power source could be used to process data for space flights and provide deep space communications. This has become increasingly important in recent decades as more and more information is collected by robotic probes, and manned missions are already aimed beyond the Earth's orbit: to Mars and into the Asteroid Belt.

For example, the deep space network of 13 giant antennas located in the US, Australia and Spain is already overloaded. It is necessary either to build new huge transceivers, the operation of which is hampered by the rotation of the Earth, or, according to Chang, to shift data processing to a lunar supercomputer.

Chang believes that the supercomputer should be placed in cold regions near one of the moon's poles. The low ambient temperature will facilitate the cooling of high-performance microcircuits and, most importantly, will allow the use of super-efficient superconducting materials for power transmission. Interestingly, Chang suggests using water to cool the supercomputer. There are hints of the presence of water on the Moon, but no large deposits of ice have yet been found.

There is no doubt about the usefulness of a lunar supercomputer; NASA has repeatedly made statements that in the near future data transmission networks in near-Earth space will be overcrowded. If we add to this the future exploration of deep space, then it is required today to look for solutions to this problem. True, a lunar computer is very expensive: according to various estimates, from 10 to 20 billion dollars. On the other hand, it can become part of an international inhabited lunar base, which will simplify the implementation of an ambitious project.
