Stephen Cole from the University of Los Angeles (USA) compared which genes are active in the white blood cells of lonely and sociable people, wealthy relatives and friends.

As you know, these blood cells are in charge of immunity. It turned out that the genes that protect against microbes are more active in lonely people, and those that protect against viruses are more active in sociable people.

The author of the study believes that such differences are associated with lifestyle. We catch viruses mainly from people, communicating with them, and microbes are constantly present in the environment and in food. Viruses, as a rule, die quite quickly outside the body.

Computer games are becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment among teenagers, but the associated risk of gaming addiction remains a significant problem. American scientists conducted a study to determine the main factors contributing to this addiction and offer recommendations for its prevention. Over the course of six years, 385 teenagers were followed to find out what factors may predispose them to gambling addiction. The results showed that 90% of study participants were not at risk of addiction, while 10% became gambling addicts. It turned out that the key factor in the onset of gambling addiction is a low level of prosocial behavior. Mont Blanc has risen again 07.07.2008

Since 2001, French topographers have measured the height of Mont Blanc every two years using a satellite navigation system. The last measurement of the highest mountain in Europe gave a result of 4810 meters 90 centimeters, that is, an increase in two years amounted to 2 meters 15 centimeters. Actually, not a mountain grew, but a layer of glaciers on its top.

In two years, 9455 cubic meters of ice and snow have been added here. This is explained by the fact that humid westerly winds, bringing rain and snow from the Atlantic, have become more frequent.
