The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Sodium-ion batteries CATL 10.08.2021

Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) has unveiled its first-generation sodium-ion battery, as well as its AB battery pack, capable of combining sodium-ion and lithium-ion cells in a single module.

The principle of operation of a sodium-ion battery is similar to that of a lithium-ion battery. Sodium ions also move between the cathode and anode. However, compared to lithium ions, sodium ions have a larger volume and higher requirements regarding the structural stability and kinetic properties of materials. This has become a deterrent to the development of industrial production of sodium-ion batteries.

CATL's innovation was the use of "Prussian white" (Everite salt) material with a higher specific capacitance for the manufacture of the cathode. In addition, the company upgraded the bulk structure of this material by redistributing electrons, which made it possible to solve the problem of a rapid decrease in capacitance during cyclic operation of the material. For the anode, CATL has used a hard carbon material that has a unique porous structure that provides redundant storage capacity and rapid movement of sodium ions, as well as excellent cycling performance.

The first generation of CATL sodium-ion battery, based on a series of new developments in the chemical system, has the advantages of high energy density, fast charging capability, excellent temperature resistance, excellent low temperature performance, high integration efficiency, etc. CATL ion battery can reach 160 Wh/kg, and the battery can be charged in 15 minutes to 80% at room temperature. In addition, under low temperature conditions (-20°C), the sodium-ion battery has a capacity retention rate of over 90%, and its system integration efficiency can reach over 80%. The heat resistance of sodium-ion batteries exceeds national safety requirements for traction batteries. The first generation of sodium-ion batteries can be used in various vehicle electrification applications, especially in regions with ultra-low temperatures, where its advantages become apparent. In addition, it can be flexibly adapted to the application needs of all energy storage scenarios.

The development target for the next generation of sodium-ion batteries is an energy density greater than 200 Wh/kg.

CATL has developed a complete solution for the AB battery system, which consists of mixing and matching sodium-ion and lithium-ion batteries in a certain ratio and integrating them into one battery system, and managing different battery systems through high-precision BMS algorithm. The AB battery system can compensate for the current lack of energy density in the sodium-ion battery, as well as expand its advantages in terms of high power and performance at low temperatures. This groundbreaking structural system expands the applications of lithium-sodium battery systems.
