Memory chip based on magnetoresistive structures

08.05.2007

Frcescalc Semiconductor has released the world's first magnetoresistive memory (MRAM) chip, the stand-alone MR2A16A module with 4 MB of memory.

The new type of memory has a unique set of characteristics - non-volatility with an unlimited number of cycles and high write speed. This memory technology, which uses magnetic moments to store the state of bits instead of electrical charges, has become fully commercially viable.

MRAM technology has all the necessary properties to become "universal memory", successfully combining the main advantages of various types of non-volatile and random access memory. In addition, there are a number of unique features that open up broad market opportunities for this device.

To date, the first complete product of the MRAM chip is available - MR2A16A with a memory capacity of 4 Mbps. So far, this microcircuit is produced only in the temperature range of 0...70°C. In July 2007, a chip with an extended temperature range is planned to appear. And towards the end of 2007, new MRAM memory chips should appear. Presumably, these will be 1 and 16 Mbit memory modules.

Main parameters: Non-volatile memory with practically unlimited number of read/write cycles (more than 10^16); Non-destructive read/write; Symmetrical read/write/erase cycle times: 35 ns; Bitwise erasing at up to 28 Mbps; Memory capacity: 4 Mbit; Memory organization: 256 Kbx16 bits; Data bus: 8/16 bits (configurable); Information storage time: more than 10 years; Supply voltage: 3,0...3,6 V.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Powerful batteries from Solid Power 26.09.2013

Scientists at the University of California, Boulder, have donated next-generation battery technology to a commercial company, Solid Power. The company will commercialize and mass-produce new solid-state batteries that are not only lighter, safer and cheaper than Li-ion, but also have 2-3 times the capacity. Within 18-24 months, comprehensive tests of new batteries will be carried out, after which their mass sale will begin.

Thus, already in 2 years the mass replacement of obsolete, dangerous and expensive lithium-ion batteries may begin on the market. They will be replaced by "dry" solid-state batteries that are not afraid of shock and can store several times more charge.

The new battery does not use an electrolyte, instead the lithium metal anode is separated from the cathode by a ceramic electrolyte. This drastically reduces the weight of the battery, in addition, it becomes much safer and has a large capacity, in particular, it allows at least a 2-fold increase in the range of electric vehicles, bringing it to 300-600 km.

It has been very difficult to create a solid electrolyte that conducts ions as easily as a liquid one. The problem was the low efficiency of such batteries, but scientists managed to solve it. They mixed small particles of cathode material with a solid electrolyte, into which they added a special additive that increases electrical conductivity. This configuration allows ions and electrons to move more easily in the cathode.
