SHARP Announces Millionth Contrast LCD Display

25.12.2005

Sharp has announced the development of an LCD display that it calls "mega-contrast". It has an absolutely incredible contrast ratio of 1000000:1 (a million to one).

Recall that in modern LCD monitors that can be bought in a store, the contrast ratio is about 1000:1 (sometimes less - 700:1), and the highest contrast display, which belongs to the professional category, has a ratio of 3000:1. True, SED, which is a joint venture between Canon and Toshiba, recently launched an LCD TV with a contrast ratio of 100000:1. The contrast of the "mega-contrast" display exceeds the theoretical limits for CRT, plasma and organic electroluminescent displays.

According to Sharp, this was achieved through the use of a combination of "unique" technologies developed by Sharp over the past few years. Moreover, Sharp emphasizes that the extremely high contrast ratio did not affect the power consumption of the display. It is as low as it should be for conventional LCD displays.

At first, Sharp is going to use its "mega-contrast" display in professional monitors for video engineers, who usually work in darkened rooms (where you can appreciate the "million" contrast). They will be released under the name Advanced Super View Premium LCD. But Sharp also has plans to enter the consumer market (when prices for "mega-contrast" monitors drop to an acceptable level).

Other technical characteristics of these LCD displays: diagonal - 37 inches, resolution - 1920x1080 pixels, brightness - 500 cd/m2.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Urbanista Phoenix TWS earbuds with built-in solar battery 13.08.2022

Following the release last year of Los Angeles on-ear headphones with integrated solar panels, the Swedish company Urbanista has prepared Phoenix wireless (TWS) headphones, which use similar Powerfoyle elements, which are also used in the previous version. However, in earplugs, the solar panels are not placed on the body of the earbuds themselves, but on the charging case.

The Powerfoyle elements produced by Exeger are designed to extend the life of the headphones without recharging - Phoenix users will not be able to completely do without sockets. The TWS headphones themselves do not have integrated solar cells, they are built into the Phoenix case. Given the small size of the headphones, the decision is quite logical. But, if in the previous model of full-size headphones, the strip of solar cells placed on the bow is almost always directed towards the sun, then in Phoenix you need to make sure that the case is under the sun's rays.

Phoenix provides up to 8 hours of use with their own batteries, and together with the case, autonomy is provided for 32 hours, and every hour spent in direct sunlight with the case extends the ability to play music for an additional hour. The charge level can be monitored using a special application that includes an equalizer, as well as support for customization of touch controls.

Other features of the Phoenix include IPX4 water resistance (protects primarily from sweat, but not from showers or showers), Bluetooth 5.2 support, and a USB Type-C port for normal charging.

The headphones support active noise cancellation, have a transparency mode, and it is also possible to connect two devices at the same time - this is, for example, convenient when answering phone calls without losing connection with a laptop. Available in black and pink color options. The manufacturer calls the model the first TWS headphones using Powerfoyle solar cells.

Phoenix headphones will start shipping no earlier than the fourth quarter of 2022. At the time of release, the novelty will cost $149.
