Temple air is dangerous to health

An air pollution study conducted in two churches in Maastricht, Holland, showed that spending an hour in a temple, breathing candle smoke and church incense, is 20 times more harmful than standing on the side of an autobahn with heavy traffic for an hour.

The content of particles in the air with a size of 10 micrometers or less, penetrating deeply into the lungs, and from there into the blood, even before the start of the service, was 3-5 times higher than on the side of a busy highway. After nine hours of service, which is typical for Sundays, hazardous particles that cause emphysema, heart failure and cancer have exceeded the dangerous limit of one milligram per cubic meter of air set by European health standards.

In addition to soot particles, high levels of carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and free radicals were found in the air of temples.
