The world's first Ethernet system controller type ENC28J60

MICROCHIP TECHNOLOGY has launched the world's first ENC28J60 Ethernet system controller, which is an efficient remote communication solution.

Previous controllers were bulky and came in packages with more than 80 pins. The ENC28J60 is available in a 28-pin package and has an output to the industry standard SPI serial interface, which requires only four wires to communicate with the server controller.

The share of fresh water on Earth is 3%, and more than 700 million people regularly experience problems with access to it. Building cleanup infrastructure is not only expensive, but often harmful to the environment.

However, the Finnish company Solar Water Solutions (SWS), after several years of research, has begun testing an "environmentally friendly" system based on solar energy. According to the manufacturer, no batteries or chemicals are used in the processing, and operating costs are close to zero.

The company secured the support of the climate fund CFM and delivered 200 such units to the Kitui district in Kenya. They convert between 4 and 7 liters of clean water per hour from sea water or 10 liters from brackish water.

Through collaboration with CFM and Kitui County, we can revolutionize the approach to affordable and safe water in rural Kenya. This project marks a breakthrough in solar water infrastructure.

The technology is based on an advanced reverse osmosis method. Water molecules pass through semi-permeable membranes in cylindrical tanks with adaptive nozzle valves, while the external pressure is provided by energy from solar cells.
