Thermal power plant on vegetable oil

The Anglo-Belgian concern, with the participation of the German company Siemens, has commissioned a thermal power plant in the city of Bregenz (Austria), in the furnaces of which waste edible oil is burned, which remains after frying donuts, potato chips, popcorn and other products in fast food establishments.

The power of the station, which consists of three blocks, is 3,4 megawatts. Excess heat is used to heat the neighboring quarters of the city. Since edible oil contains virtually no sulfur, the smoke from burning it is not as harmful as from burning fossil fuels.

However, the cleaning filters installed at the CHPP ensure the elimination of nitrogen oxides and the appetizing smell of fried food, which, in too large doses, can cause dissatisfaction among the townspeople.
