Thermo-regulating fabric using electrocaloric effect

02.01.2024

A team of scientists from Nankai University in China reports the creation of a unique material with a two-way thermoregulation system. Clothing made from this innovative substance can effectively retain heat in the cold season and cool in hot weather, powered by solar energy.

The developed thermoregulating fabric, based on the electrocaloric effect and solar panels, represents an innovative approach to creating clothing that can adapt to different environmental conditions. This discovery could be an important step in the development of sustainable and energy-efficient technologies in the textile industry.

The operating principle of metatissue is based on the electrocaloric effect. In this material, the atoms are electrically polarized, creating a slight imbalance in the distribution of electrons. This leads to the appearance of a “plus” and “minus” pole for the particles. When an electric field is turned on, the atoms begin to vibrate faster in accordance with the laws of entropy, which leads to an increase in temperature. When the electric field is turned off, the opposite effect occurs: entropy leaves the atomic lattice, taking heat with it.

Built-in solar panels interact with sunlight, converting it into a source of energy for the fabric. Experiments have shown that such clothing is able to maintain skin temperature between 32 and 36 °C, even when the ambient temperature varies from 12,5 to 37,6 °C.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Samsung Smartphone for Visually Impaired People 22.03.2014

Samsung Electronics has handed over a certificate for 100 Samsung Galaxy Core Advance smartphones to the All-Russian Public Organization of the Disabled "All-Russian Order of the Red Banner of Labor Society of the Blind" (VOS).

The Samsung Galaxy Core Advance is packed with unique features and accessories for visually impaired consumers and the elderly. With a large and bright 4,7-inch screen, additional physical buttons and a non-slip back panel, this smartphone ensures comfortable operation. Special mention deserves a special mode that simplifies the work with a smartphone thanks to large icons and easy-to-read labels. It is indispensable for visually impaired users and will allow them to easily make calls, type messages and enjoy all the benefits of modern technology. In addition, the novelty uses physical buttons instead of traditional touch buttons for modern smartphones, which have a clearly defined tactile feedback when pressed. Physical buttons are provided for the most frequently used functions: voice recorder, camera, volume control, smartphone menu, power on.

Additional features developed by Samsung specifically for people with disabilities include optical scanning for automatic text recognition from an image and subsequent voice playback, the Light Sensing application that allows you to determine the direction of light sources and their brightness with sound indication, Instant Voice recorder Recorder for quick creation of voice notes and, of course, a special mode of operation of the smartphone interface, in which menu navigation and all user actions are confirmed by voice feedback.

Also worth noting is the conversion of text into a TTS (Text-to-Speech) voice message and the Voice Guided Camera function for conveniently determining the number of people and their location when taking pictures. The Samsung Galaxy Core Advance is equipped with a number of branded Galaxy features, including S Voice, S Translator, Sound & Shot, Group Play and Easy Mode. Among the advantages of the novelty are modern wireless interfaces, including Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi, support for positioning with GPS and GLONASS systems, as well as NFC and S Beam support for quick download of video, audio or contact data from other smartphones with a single keystroke.

Equally interesting are the accessories designed specifically for the Samsung Galaxy Core Advance. These include NFC voice tags that allow you to conveniently mark any objects, a special tripod stand that makes it easier to scan and recognize printed text, magazines and books, as well as a case with an ultrasonic rangefinder, with which the smartphone turns into a real guide signaling by vibration about the presence of obstacles in the way of the owner of the smartphone and the distance to them.

The Samsung Galaxy Core Advance went on sale in navy blue and pearl white in early 2014.
