Link found between food intake and body clock

06.09.2023

A study sponsored by the Medical Research Council (MRC) has found an important relationship between a person's biological clock and meal times. This new level of understanding could lead to the development of new methods to combat diseases associated with night work and travel across time zones.

According to the study, our body's biological clock is consistent with the environment, including diet, and this interaction is of great importance. Disturbances in circadian rhythms caused by night work or flights can affect overall health. Particular attention has been paid to the fact that eating times outside of normal hours can lead to disturbances in circadian rhythms. Until now, there was no exact data on how exactly the body's biological clock reacts to food intake.

Researchers at the MRC Molecular Biology Laboratory in Cambridge, together with scientists from the University of Manchester, conducted a series of experiments that revealed that insulin plays a key role in communicating mealtime information to cells throughout the body, thus strengthening circadian rhythms. The study was conducted on cultured cells.

John O'Neill, leader of the research team, said: "The basis of this cellular clock is a complex interaction of various molecules that ensure the exact observance of the 24-hour rhythm. We have demonstrated that insulin released during meals can serve as a kind of time signal for the cells of all organism.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Thecus N4810 NAS 05.08.2016

Thecus introduced the Thecus N4810 NAS, thereby expanding the range of NAS based on the Intel Braswell family of chips. The basis for the novelty was the Thecus N2810PRO model announced in June, from which the Intel Celeron N3160 SoC was borrowed.

This microcircuit received four cores with a frequency of 1,6-2,24 GHz, and the estimated heat dissipation is only 6 watts. The DDR3 RAM is 4 GB, but it can be upgraded up to 8 GB. Four 3,5" drive cages support up to 10TB drives each. The SATA interface is used, drives can be combined into an array of RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6 and 10 with support for hot swap and spare. The entire array can be encrypted using the AES algorithm with a 256-bit key.

Two Gigabit Ethernet network ports support seven aggregation modes, doubling the throughput to 2 Gbps. In a home network, the presence of HDMI and DisplayPort video outputs along with an S / PDIF connector is useful. In addition to them, there are four USB 3.0 ports, an external 90 W power supply and an internal fan (92 mm), whose speed depends on temperature and the noise level does not exceed 25 dB.

ThecusOS 7.0 features data synchronization between two Thecus NAS, VPN remote access, personal cloud using mobile devices, and Kodi multimedia shell for 4K video playback.
