Artificial zipper removes odor from manure

The use of a plasma discharge, which operates on the principle of "artificial lightning", can remove contaminants from manure. This conclusion was reached after testing in the UK.

The technology involves launching a plasma charge into a slurry to break down toxic ammonia and climate-damaging methane.

The plasma itself is a stream of matter heated to such an extent that electrons are torn off from atoms and molecules are destroyed.

In the process of applying "artificial lightning" to the manure, the ammonia molecules break down, forming pure nitrogen, which can later be used for fertilizer.

During the test, the researchers used a plasma gun to shoot cow dung at the Holly Green dairy farm in a picturesque part of Buckinghamshire. According to the results, the content of ammonia in the slurry decreased by 90%, and methane - by 99%.

If the technology becomes available, it will not only solve the problem of climate change and improve the smell in rural areas, but also provide an opportunity to combat air pollution in urban areas.
