Czech hydrogen strategy

07.08.2021

The Czech government approved the Hydrogen Strategy prepared by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and based on four main areas: production of low-carbon hydrogen, low-carbon use of hydrogen, transportation and storage of hydrogen, hydrogen technologies.

"The goal of the strategy, among other things, is to accelerate the development and subsequent implementation of economically affordable hydrogen technologies," said Silvana Jirotkova, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade. "The Czech Republic should have ambitions to become an important exporter in this area in the future."

"The question of how to use hydrogen depends mainly on price, so we must look for ways to minimize costs and maximize efficiency by replacing fossil fuels with hydrogen," added Peter Merwart, Hydrogen Minister's Plenipotentiary for Industry and Trade. "Our goal is to create in the Czech Republic a new low-carbon economy that will gradually replace an economy heavily dependent on fossil fuels that will gradually decline."

The Czech Republic, together with other Member States, has committed to achieving climate neutrality by 2050. The hydrogen strategy is one of the important tools to achieve this goal.

Due to the geographical position of the Czech Republic, not only renewable energy sources were taken into account, but also other sources that can produce low-carbon hydrogen.

Among the companies already working in this direction, the utility group CEZ is developing up to 15 projects for the production and use of hydrogen, and in six of them it is already taking concrete steps, especially in the field of using hydrogen in public transport. In addition, the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague has an accredited curriculum focused on hydrogen technology, and the region of Usti nad Labem is the first Czech region with a developed network of filling stations, three of which will be put into operation in the near future.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

SpaceX Starship Thermal Insulation Fire Tests 19.03.2019

After a successful test launch in early March of the unmanned Crew Dragon spacecraft, its docking with the International Space Station (ISS) and return to Earth, SpaceX has come to grips with its other major project: the Starship interplanetary spacecraft.

In the near future, the company is expected to begin test flights of the Starship prototype to an altitude of up to 5 km to practice the takeoff and landing of the spacecraft. But before that, Elon Musk posted a short video on Twitter, giving anyone interested in the interplanetary project a look at the hexagonal heat shield tiles that will ultimately protect the ship from significant temperature rises.

Musk explained that the hottest parts of the heat shield during the test, glowing white, reached a maximum temperature of about 1650 kelvins (about 1377 ° C). According to the SpaceX CEO, this coating is enough to withstand extreme temperatures when overcoming the dense layers of the Earth's atmosphere during the descent of the ship to Earth, although this figure is slightly less than the temperature that NASA's Space Shuttle space shuttles (about 1500 ° C) could withstand without consequences.

The hottest sections of the heat shield will have a "transpiration cooling" system with external microscopic pores that allow the coolant (water or methane) to flow out and cool the outer surface. This will help minimize damage to the heat shield and ensure that Starship can quickly return to service shortly after completion of the flight. To do this, it will be enough just to fill the reservoir of the heat shield.
