Thin transistors for invisible electronic skin

29.06.2021

Scientists have become one step closer to creating a full-fledged electronic skin. To achieve this goal, a special nanocoating was developed that is only three atoms thick, making it virtually invisible to the human eye.

The technology was created by scientists from Stanford. In the future, it will allow the production of transistors with a length of less than 100 nanometers - several times less than the previous record. The breakthrough was achieved by replacing flexible plastic with silicon with an ultra-thin film of molybdenum disulfide coated with nano-coated gold electrodes. The output was a film only three atoms thick, created at a temperature of 815 degrees. The researchers argue that a traditional substrate would deform after reaching 360 degrees.

After the components have cooled, the film is applied to the substrate, and the finished transistor structure will be only 5 microns thick, or one-tenth the diameter of a human hair. Such e-skin is not demanding on power consumption and can withstand high currents at low voltage. It is important to consider that it meets all the requirements for such products: thin and almost invisible.

The next stage of research involves the integration of wireless technologies, which will allow you to connect to the network without additional equipment. In addition, there are plans to create a mass production technique, which in the future will allow us to talk about the emergence of highly efficient electronic skin, implants and other flexible devices.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

The existence of the ninth planet is proved 24.05.2018

Astronomers have discovered a strange celestial body, a dwarf planet with a very unusual orbit, which indicates that there is a large ninth planet in the outskirts of the solar system.

Astronomers have found a small cosmic body, and its orbit can only be explained by one fact: another, where a large planet is still hiding from our view, but affects the bodies around it.

Scientists have been suggesting for several years that another planet in our system is circling far from the Sun, and for the past few years they have been looking for it. It all started in 2016, when astronomers in a number of distant objects in the solar system revealed some strange pattern. All of them had a very interesting orbit, they rotated at an angle to all the other planets in the system.

Observations suggested that their orbits were affected by the gravity of another, much more massive body. Now another object with a strange orbit has been found. The orbit of 2015 BP519 is at an angle of 54 degrees compared to almost everything inside the solar system, and the most plausible explanation for this anomaly is the existence of the Ninth planet.

Of course, it is difficult to find it, since it is very far from us, much further than Pluto. And besides, she's dark. In addition, we don't know exactly where it might be. But if it really exists, then we will find it.
