Experts from Canada came to the conclusion that a person may have a genetic predisposition to a negative perception of life situations.

A pessimistic position in life can be held by people who are carriers of the altered ADRA2b gene. Researchers from the University of British Columbia conducted a series of experiments that showed that this gene, as a result of changes, is able to make a person see the world in gloomy colors. It also contributes to a brighter perception of certain events, especially negative ones.

According to Rebecca Todd, author of the study, this is the first time scientists have been able to uncover a possible reason for a person's pessimistic attitude. As it turned out, this genetic variation can have a really strong impact on how people see the world and how they perceive it.

The ADRA2b gene variant significantly affects the production of the hormone and neurotransmitter norepinephrine, which is responsible for the defense response in case of danger and plays an important role in the formation of emotional memory.

The last study included 200 people. Each of them was shown positive, negative and neutral words at an accelerated pace. As it turned out, volunteers who are carriers of the ADRA2b gene variant showed a more violent reaction to negative words than everyone else.

These people are more likely to react to sullen faces in the crowd, and when they find themselves in nature, they cannot enjoy its charms, focusing on all sorts of dangers. For example, they begin to look for trees that may have ticks, or they find slippery places.

A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. Converting coal to anode grade graphite 13.01.2021

American scientists have succeeded in turning raw carbon powder into nanographite, which is used in lithium-ion batteries.

The coal industry can radically change its mission from environmentally dirty combustion in the furnaces of thermal power plants to an element necessary for creating "green" energy accumulators. Scientists have successfully converted raw carbon powder into nanographite, which is used in lithium-ion batteries, among other things.

Previous research has shown that microwaves can be used to reduce the moisture content of coal and remove sulfur and other minerals, but in this latest experiment, the only treatment needed was to grind raw coal from the Powder River Basin in Wyoming into powder.

During the experiment, charcoal powder was placed on copper foil and sealed in glass containers with a gas mixture of argon and hydrogen before being placed in a microwave oven. Then high temperatures, copper foil and gas turned the coal powder into polycrystalline graphite.

The current production of 99,99% pure anode grade graphite is expensive and the process generates toxic waste. The final cost is not so much the material as the cleaning process.

One lithium-ion battery in an electric car uses about 25 kg of pure graphite to create an anode.
