5.3.2. Measures to ensure power reliability must be selected in accordance with the requirements of Sec. 1.2 depending on the category of responsibility of electrical receivers. These measures can be applied not to individual electric motors, but to the transformers and converter substations, switchgears and points that supply them.

Redundancy of the line directly feeding the electric motor is not required, regardless of the power supply reliability category.

5.3.3. If it is necessary to ensure the continuity of the technological process in the event of failure of the electric motor, its switching equipment or the line directly feeding the electric motor, redundancy should be achieved by installing a backup process unit or other methods.

5.3.4. Electric motors and their switching devices must be selected and installed in such a way and, if necessary, provided with such a cooling system that their temperature during operation does not exceed the permissible one (see also 5.3.20).

5.3.5. Electric motors and devices must be installed in such a way that they are accessible for inspection and replacement, and, if possible, for repair at the installation site. If the electrical installation contains electric motors or devices weighing 100 kg or more, then provisions must be made for their rigging.

5.3.6. Rotating parts of electric motors and parts connecting electric motors to mechanisms (clutches, pulleys) must be protected from accidental touches.

5.3.7. Electric motors and their switching devices must be grounded or zeroed in accordance with the requirements of Chapter. 1.7.

5.3.8. The design of electric motors must correspond to environmental conditions.

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Controlling objects using air currents 04.05.2024

The development of robotics continues to open up new prospects for us in the field of automation and control of various objects. Recently, Finnish scientists presented an innovative approach to controlling humanoid robots using air currents. This method promises to revolutionize the way objects are manipulated and open new horizons in the field of robotics. The idea of controlling objects using air currents is not new, but until recently, implementing such concepts remained a challenge. Finnish researchers have developed an innovative method that allows robots to manipulate objects using special air jets as "air fingers". The air flow control algorithm, developed by a team of specialists, is based on a thorough study of the movement of objects in the air flow. The air jet control system, carried out using special motors, allows you to direct objects without resorting to physical ... >>

Purebred dogs get sick no more often than purebred dogs 03.05.2024

Caring for the health of our pets is an important aspect of the life of every dog owner. However, there is a common assumption that purebred dogs are more susceptible to diseases compared to mixed dogs. New research led by researchers at the Texas School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences brings new perspective to this question. A study conducted by the Dog Aging Project (DAP) of more than 27 companion dogs found that purebred and mixed dogs were generally equally likely to experience various diseases. Although some breeds may be more susceptible to certain diseases, the overall diagnosis rate is virtually the same between both groups. The Dog Aging Project's chief veterinarian, Dr. Keith Creevy, notes that there are several well-known diseases that are more common in certain breeds of dogs, which supports the notion that purebred dogs are more susceptible to disease. ... >>

Ford smart suspension with pothole protection 01.07.2018

Bad roads are one of the main causes of accidents worldwide. In addition, potholes often lead to serious damage to the chassis and wheels of vehicles. Ford sees a partial solution to the problem in the introduction of "smart" suspension, which recognizes bumps on the road and reduces the negative consequences of hitting them.

The pothole protection system is based on an active suspension with continuously variable damping force (Continuously Controlled Damping). The electronic unit, coupled with a special software module, continuously analyzes data from 12 sensors. Sensors are polled every 2 milliseconds, which allows you to instantly respond to changing traffic conditions.

The system recognizes the moment when the wheel begins to fall into the pit, and the adaptive suspension instantly adjusts the stiffness of the shock absorbers in such a way that the wheel, when it hits the pothole, practically does not touch the bottom of the depression and, thus, “jumps over” it. In other words, the wheel remains in a “compressed” state, due to which, when exiting a pothole, it does not beat so much against its edge, which makes the passage of bumps more comfortable for passengers and reduces the load on the suspension.

When driving through a pit with the front wheels, the rear wheels are prepared for unevenness in advance, which additionally protects them from impact.

The system is already available on select Ford models, including the Mondeo business sedans, Galaxy minivans and S-MAX minivans in Europe. In addition, the company is starting to offer this solution for the C segment for the first time: active suspension with pothole protection is available for the new version of the Focus.
