3.1.3. Protection devices, in terms of their breaking capacity, must correspond to the maximum value of the short-circuit current at the beginning of the protected section of the electrical network (see also chapter 1.4).

It is allowed to install protection devices that are unstable to the maximum values of short-circuit current, as well as selected by the value of a one-time limiting switching capacity, if the group device protecting them or the nearest device located towards the power source provides instantaneous disconnection of the short-circuit current, for which it is necessary that the current the settings of the instantaneous release (cut-off) of these devices was less than the current of the one-time switching capacity of each of the group of unstable devices, and if such a non-selective shutdown of the entire group of devices does not threaten an accident, damage to expensive equipment and materials or disrupt a complex technological process.

3.1.4. Rated currents of fuse links and setting currents of automatic switches used to protect individual sections of the network should in all cases be chosen as low as possible according to the rated currents of these sections or according to the rated currents of electrical receivers, but in such a way that protection devices do not turn off electrical installations during short-term overloads (starting currents, process load peaks, self-starting currents, etc.).

3.1.5. Circuit breakers or fuses should be used as protection devices. To ensure the requirements of speed, sensitivity or selectivity, it is allowed, if necessary, to use protection devices using remote relays (indirect relay).

3.1.6. Circuit breakers and plug-type fuses must be connected to the network so that when the plug of the fuse (circuit breaker) is unscrewed, the screw sleeve of the fuse (circuit breaker) remains without voltage. With a one-way supply, the connection of the supply conductor (cable or wire) to the protection device should, as a rule, be carried out to fixed contacts.

3.1.7. Each protection device must have an inscription indicating the values of the rated current of the device, the setting of the release and the rated current of the fuse-link required for the network it protects. Inscriptions are recommended to be applied on the device or circuit located near the place of installation of protection devices.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

giant crystals 12.10.2000

Researchers from the Lawrence Laboratory in Livermore (USA) managed to grow huge crystals of potassium pyrophosphate.

The largest of the crystals has a volume of a quarter of a cubic meter and weighs 318 kilograms. It grew in a large tank, where a solution of potassium pyrophosphate evaporated at a temperature of 65 degrees Celsius. Molecules were deposited on a seed smaller than a thimble, and after 52 days a transparent giant grew with almost no defects in the crystal lattice.

The crystals will be used to build super-powerful lasers that are used in controlled nuclear fusion experiments.
