VHF receiver with PLL, the description of which was published two years ago in the journal "Radio" (see V. Polyakov's article "VHF receiver with PLL" in Radio, 1979, No. 9, pp. 33, 34), aroused keen interest radio amateurs involved in the design of radio receiving equipment. Along with excellent operational parameters, designers were attracted by its simplicity and high reliability in operation. However, this generally very good device has one unfortunate drawback: low temperature stability caused by . using a hybrid microcircuit without temperature stabilization elements. To eliminate this shortcoming, it is proposed to replace the hybrid microcircuit with a transistor assembly, using one of its transistors as a temperature-compensating diode.

A schematic diagram of a receiver improved in this way is shown in the figure. The new receiver is supplemented with a V9 field-effect transistor LF pre-amplifier, which matches its output with the input of a stereo decoder. In addition, to eliminate the mutual influence of the tuning circuits and the PLL, it uses various types of varicaps. So the functions of the PLL are performed, as in a slow-moving receiver, by the varicap matrix KVS111A, and the tuning functions are performed by two back-to-back diodes D223 (their capacitance at zero bias should be 20 ... 25 pF). This technical solution allows you to set the boundaries of the received range using a single resistor R8. By the way, for the convenience of carrying out this operation, it can be replaced by two series-connected resistors: a constant and a tuned one.

Receiver PLL Improvement

Setting up the receiver begins with checking the modes of the transistors, which should not differ from those indicated in the diagram by more than 20%. Further, by connecting the antenna, the boundaries of the received frequency range are set, first roughly - using the L2 coil, and then accurately - using the resistor R8. It should be borne in mind that with a zero bias on the tuning diodes V7, V8, radio stations operating in the low-frequency range should be received. In conclusion, the input circuit is adjusted according to the maximum holding band and the optimal signal level in the antenna is selected.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

New refrigeration method for refrigerators 09.01.2023

Scientists at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory have created a cooler using the principle of ionocaloric cooling.

A phase transition in a material is associated with energy flows. When a solid body melts, it absorbs energy from the environment, and when it solidifies, it releases it. This remains true even when the phase change is caused by chemical or mechanical changes rather than by heating or freezing the body.

The new refrigerant works on the ionocalloric principle. Salt is at the base of the device. The current passing through the system moves the ions, raising the melting point of the material. When melted, the material absorbs heat from the environment, and when the ions are removed and hardens, it gives off heat back. The first experiment was able to cool the material by 25 degrees Celsius using a voltage of less than one volt. This is much more efficient than using similar technologies. The authors of the development are trying to balance three things: the environmental safety of the refrigerant, energy efficiency and equipment cost.

“The use of refrigerants is an unsolved problem: no one has been able to develop an alternative solution that cools things, works efficiently, safely and does not harm the environment,” the scientists noted. “We think that the ionocaloric cycle can achieve all these goals if it is done correctly implement".

Scientists are thinking about how to effectively use the heat obtained by this method - for example, to heat water or in industrial processes. Now the authors of the technology have managed to obtain a limited patent for the ionocaloric refrigeration cycle.
