If your apartment does not have direct access to the network wiring, then you can assemble an indicator with a remote inductive sensor placed near the network wires at the place where they enter the apartment. True, the alternating voltage at the terminals of the sensor coil will be small in this case and an amplifier will be needed. It can be assembled according to the scheme shown in Fig. 7.14.

The alternating voltage induced in the sensor coil L1 by the alternating magnetic field of the mains wires is fed to the input of a linear amplifier made on the operational amplifier DA1 through the low-pass filter R2, C1 - it attenuates impulse noise.

Power consumption indicator

To expand the range of displayed powers, a logarithmic amplifier assembled on the DA2 operational amplifier was introduced into the device. From its output, the signal goes to the rectifier (on diodes VD3 and VD4) with a doubling of the voltage and then to a voltmeter composed of a dial indicator RA1 and resistor R9. Pointer indicator - with a full deflection current of the pointer 50 ... 100 μA. As a sensor, a coil with a magnetic circuit from a PCM relay or other small-sized relays (RES6, RES9, RES22) containing 1000 ... 1500 turns is suitable. Adjust the indicator in the following sequence. By connecting the power sources (two 3336 batteries), by moving the slider of the resistor R7, zero voltage is set at the output of the DA2 chip (pin 6) relative to the common wire.

Then, an AC voltmeter is connected to the output of the operational amplifier DA1 and a load of at least 100 W is connected to the network. By moving the sensor along the wall at the place of the proposed input of network wires, the maximum readings of the dial indicator are achieved. In this place, the sensor is fixed on the wall. Next, they turn on the load (say, several electrical appliances) of the maximum possible power consumption, and with a trimming resistor R3 they achieve an alternating voltage at the DA1 output of 0,1 ... 0,5 V, and then by selecting the resistor R9 set the microammeter needle to the final scale division.

It should be borne in mind that the batteries are discharged unevenly and after a while an imbalance of the operational amplifier may appear, which will lead to a violation of the graduation of the indicator scale. Therefore, periodically check the battery voltage, and if it differs from the original by more than 10%, replace the battery.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Robot Nurse 17.03.2007

Engineers from Germany and seven other EU countries have begun to create robots for the hospital. The dimensions of the robot for the hospital should not exceed half a meter. It must be equipped with a motor, wheels, a computer, a monitor, a loudspeaker, radio communication, optical sensors and manipulators for cleaning the room. All this equipment is already there.

"Our goal is to assemble it on one platform and equip the system with a sufficiently high intelligence. And such a robot will come in handy not only for cleaning the premises. It will be possible to call a doctor or take a visitor to the patient with it. The main difference of our system is that the robot can act not only autonomously, but also form a single intellectual center with other robots,” says Thomas Schlegel from the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering (Germany), who coordinates the European IWARD project (from “intelligent robot swarm for attendance, recognition, cleaning and delivery”).

How this system will work can be judged by several examples. Imagine that one robot is cleaning the ward, and the other is standing in the corridor and sees an elderly patient approaching the ward. Then he informs the first cleaning robot about this, and he, just in case, crawls into a corner so that the patient does not stumble on him. It may happen that a nurse who is in the ward for patients with heart disease urgently needs the help of a cardiologist.

With the help of a robot from this ward, she will be able to contact all the robots of the department, and one of them will definitely find a doctor. And using the communication channel and the monitor of the robot, the doctor will immediately be able to delve into the essence of the problem and examine the patient without wasting precious minutes.
