A manual cutter for cutting thin plastics, made using a slotted cutter, is described. The cutter does not blunt and does not require sharpening.

Cutting plastic layered decorative and electrical insulating materials, including foil fiberglass, in everyday life, and in laboratory conditions, is carried out, as you know, with a cutter made of a hacksaw blade and specially sharpened on a grinding machine. The blade of such a cutter quickly (after the first cuts) “sits down”, especially on fiberglass, and requires regrinding, which is not always possible due to the lack of the necessary tool.

The figure shows a cutter that does not require sharpening and does not blunt.

Cutter for cutting thin plastics

The cutter is assembled on the basis of a slotted cutter (slotted), designed for cutting slots, narrow slots, deep grooves in steel and cast iron parts. For the cutter, a milling cutter with a tooth height of 2 mm (GOST 2679-73) was selected, which is best suited for this manual work. Its outer diameter is 32 mm, the bore diameter is 8 mm, and the width (thickness) is 0,5 mm. The number of teeth is 36. Of course, you can use a cutter with a different diameter, for example 40 mm, but not more than 0,6 mm thick. The handle of the cutter is made of a wooden lath 15...20 mm thick. The length of the cutter handle is 160 mm.

The cutter is pressed against the handle with an M8 bolt with a nut and slightly protrudes beyond its dimensions, which makes the operation of the cutter reliable (does not break it) in case of accidental distortions in the process of cutting the material. If you rearrange the cutter, then the tool is also suitable for working with the left hand (for left-handers).

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>
