Most amateur photographers prefer self-powered flash units. Such mass-produced pulsed luminaires are charged from the "Lightning" battery or from a low-voltage converter of dry cells into a high one. But "Lightning" is rarely on sale and is not stored for long. You won't get enough batteries - the set is barely enough to shoot two narrow films. Here also it is necessary willy-nilly to be "attached" to the network socket.

I found a way out of this predicament by using an alkaline nickel-cadmium non-spillable battery brand 2NKP-20. Its advantages are lightness, durability and the possibility of recharging. To power the flash, you need to assemble a voltage converter (see schematic diagram). Transformer T1 is wound on core Ш1 5X15. Winding I contains 18 + 18 turns of PEV-1 0,41 wire, II - 12 + 14 turns of PEV-1 0,2, and winding III - 300 turns of PEV-1 0,1. Resistor - MLT-1 or VS-1, capacitor - oxide KEM or K50-6.

If the device does not work after assembly (no characteristic "singing" is heard), swap the conclusions of the collector winding.

The converter is housed in a plastic case measuring 35X55X120 mm, for example, in a case from a motorcycle first aid kit.

I use a flashlight "Luch-70". The converter and battery fit freely in the Lightning battery slot.

The charge time when the flash switch is set to "100 J" is 35 seconds, in the "50 J" position it is 10 seconds, providing sufficient speed during shooting.

If the flash has not been used for more than five days, it must be trained before shooting as required by the instruction manual, and then reliable operation will be ensured.

Diagnosing a cold before symptoms appear 13.01.2023

Researchers from the University of Michigan have found that the process of reduced immunity followed by SARS is preceded by a temporary but noticeable decrease in cognitive abilities.

Scientists conducted a study in which 18 participants tested their attention, reaction time and ability to switch between numbers and symbols three times a day. On the fourth day of the study, the group was purposefully exposed to the human rhinovirus (HRV), commonly responsible for the common cold.

Throughout the days, participants lavaged their noses to measure the presence and volume of viral cells shed. Volunteers were also asked to rate their well-being based on eight symptoms, including fever, cough, headache, nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, sore throat and fatigue.

After all, those who shed the most virus and had severe symptoms tended to show fluctuating cognitive performance in the days leading up to their illness.

The authors of the study believe that their work may be the key to the early diagnosis of colds. They note that the current study is small and only hints at a possible link between cognitive function and immune system problems. Further studies in large cohorts are needed to verify the results.
