Many years ago, when I seriously began to engage in technical creativity, I realized that I could not do without a welding machine in this matter. From that time on, I began to take an interest in them. It seems to be not such a complicated device, but there is still no limit to its perfection. Both specialists and practitioners are racking their brains over it: how to make it even simpler, but at the same time better.

Here I am, having made the first welding machine for myself and worked with it. began to think about how to improve its characteristics. I looked through some available literature on this topic, began to delve into the theory. Over time, I made another apparatus, of course, no worse than the first, but I felt that I could do better. In addition, there was a lively and increased interest in everything related to welding processes and devices for it. I began not only to read, but also to collect literature and publications on this topic. I am grateful and grateful to all the authors of articles about welding machines that were published in the magazine "Modelist-constructor".

I spent a lot of time in my garage, making and testing various welding machines. As a result, I came to such a "welder" scheme, which I myself am satisfied with, and I am not ashamed to advise others.

I want to note that welding machines with rectifiers, that is, those operating on direct (pulsating) current, are obviously better than "variables" - those that work without a diode bridge. But the "permanent" ones also need fine-tuning and tuning. Therefore, I propose tried and tested improvements.

First of all, this concerns the inclusion in the circuit between the positive and negative wires of the rectified current of the capacitor C1. An electrolytic capacitor with a capacity of 15000 microns, designed for a voltage of 100 V. It provides reliable, but at the same time smooth ignition of the arc. If such a capacitor is not possible to purchase, then instead of it you can put a capacitor C1 = 50 microns x 160 V, but already in the positive half-cycle current circuit, as indicated in the diagram.

And further. It will be useful to put a paper capacitor of the MBGO or MBGI type with a capacity of 160 microns in the primary circuit. rated for 500 V to smooth power surges.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

Fuel cell buses from Toyota 23.10.2016

Toyota Motor Corporation has announced plans to commercialize buses powered by hydrogen fuel cells.

Recall that back in December 2014, Toyota began selling the production Mirai car with a fuel cell engine. The sedan is endowed with a TFCS (Toyota Fuel Cell System) power plant with a maximum output of 114 kW. The power reserve exceeds 500 kilometers; express filling of a cylinder with hydrogen takes about 5 minutes.
Toyota is now reported to start selling hydrogen-powered FC Bus buses in early 2017. These vehicles are designed to carry 77 people, including the driver. The interior configuration includes 26 seats and 50 standing places.

Hydrogen is stored in ten tanks at a pressure of 700 bar; the total volume is 600 liters. Two electric motors provide a total of 308 horsepower and 670 Nm of torque. The bus can act as an electric generator for powering external devices.

Up to 2020 hydrogen fuel cell buses are expected to operate in the Tokyo area by XNUMX.
