ENCYCLOPEDIA OF RADIO ELECTRONICS AND ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING Improvement of the Air Wick air freshener. Encyclopedia of radio electronics and electrical engineering Encyclopedia of radio electronics and electrical engineering / Home, household, hobby Air freshener "Air Wick" is equipped with a control unit that automatically supplies portions of fragrant aerosol into the room at fixed intervals, as well as at the touch of a button. There is a switch that allows you to select the time interval between triggers (9, 18 or 36 minutes). They turn off the air freshener. Even with an injection repetition period of 36 minutes, there are 40 freshener activations per day, and with a period of 9 minutes, their number reaches 160. If the freshener is installed in the toilet room, which is empty most of the time, this mode is extremely wasteful. If, however, the existing control unit in the air freshener is replaced by the proposed one, the efficiency of the device will increase markedly. This unit is equipped with a light sensor, with the help of which it determines that the light is on in the room and, therefore, there is someone in it. Of course, this imposes a limitation on the use of an improved air freshener - it is only suitable for rooms with very little natural light.
The scheme of the improved control unit is shown in fig. one. It is built on a PIC12F629-I/P microcontroller and is powered by the same 3V battery as the old unit. The start button SB1, the LED and the electric motor for driving the injection mechanism M1 are also used. Switch SA1, which replaced the freshener operation period switch, you can select one of two operating modes: "Daily" and "Guests". The "Guests" mode is turned on when there are a lot of people (guests) in the apartment and intensive air freshening in the toilet room is required. The aerosol injection command is given each time the light is turned on or off. In this case, the program of the microcontroller DD1 for a while changes the low level at its output GP5 to a high one. The transistor VT1 opens, the supply voltage is supplied to the engine M1 and injection occurs. "Everyday" mode is more difficult. In the initial state, the room is dark. Turning on the light, a man enters. Having fixed this fact by changing the voltage at the GP1 input of the microcontroller, depending on the illumination of the photoresistor R4 (the response threshold is set by selecting the resistor R5), the program starts the countdown, signaling this by flashing the HL1 LED. If no more than 4 minutes have elapsed from a person's entry into the room to his exit (turning off the light), the program concludes that there is no need to freshen the air. The same conclusion is made when the time interval from turning on the light to turning it off exceeds 15 minutes (perhaps, a person took a shower in a combined toilet or simply forgot to turn off the light when leaving). In such cases, the program returns to its original state without issuing a command for aerosol injection. When the time interval between turning on the light and turning it off is from 4 to 15 minutes, a decision is made on the need to freshen the air. But as long as the room remains empty, there is no point in doing this. The program starts timing. If within half an hour the light is turned on again, a command is given to aerosol injection. After half an hour has passed, it is considered that the room has already been ventilated using the existing ventilation and it is not necessary to apply an aerosol. This mode significantly extends the life of the air freshener aerosol can before it needs to be replaced. This is good for the environment and the owner's budget. The "Guest" mode is less economical, but even it is more economical than any factory version of the air freshener. Regardless of the mode on, it is always possible to press the SB1 button and thereby cause an immediate operation of the freshener.
The control unit is assembled on a breadboard shown in fig. 2 right. In terms of shape and size, it is the same as the one previously in the air freshener (in Fig. 2, it is on the left), and is installed instead of it. It is necessary to drill a hole in the freshener cover for light access to the photoresistor R4.
