You can determine the resonant frequencies of the moving loudspeaker system using any electronic oscilloscope. The method is based on the property of such oscilloscopes to very accurately record the phase shift between current and voltage in electrical circuits. In the presence of a phase shift, an inclined ellipse will be observed on the screen of the tube, as this is shown by the dotted line in Fig. 1. With a decrease in the phase shift angle, the ellipse will narrow and, in the absence of a shift, will turn into a straight inclined line (solid line in Fig. 1), the angle of inclination and length of which can vary compared to the length and inclination of the ellipse. The moment of transition of the ellipse into a line fixes the onset of resonance.

The circuit for switching on the voice coil of any loudspeaker for measuring phase shift is shown in Fig. 2. The outputs of the loudspeaker Gr are connected to the output of a sufficiently powerful (at least 2-3 W) sound generator ZG through the active resistance R, the voltage from which is supplied to the horizontal deflection plates. Voltage is applied directly from the voice coil to the vertical deflection plates. With this inclusion, it is possible to observe the phase shift between current and voltage in the voice coil circuit and it is possible to fix the moment of resonance. In this case, the internal horizontal sweep in the oscilloscope should be turned off.

Figure 3 shows a typical frequency response of the internal resistance of a cone loudspeaker and indicates the likely figures on the oscilloscope screen for different points of this characteristic. The resistance value R can be any in the range from one to 100-200 ohms. The greater the resistance of the voice coil, the greater this additional resistance must be. It is more convenient to carry out measurements in a mode in which the amplitude of the current in the voice coil circuit remains constant in order to be able to determine the amplitude of the voltage on the voice coil along with the phase and frequency of the resonance. To do this, the resistance R must be 20-30 times greater than the resistance of the voice coil, and in any case not less than 100 ohms.

The proposed method of using an oscilloscope can be very useful for determining the quality and identity of individual loudspeakers (heads), especially when selecting them to work in various installations and acoustic systems, as well as for setting up phase inverters and correctly matching heads with acoustic design.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Changing the speed of movement of individual objects in the video 15.10.2020

Computer technology that allows you to change the speed of the selected object in videos, created by a team of specialists from Google and the University of Oxford.

Scientists taught the neural network to slow down or speed up the speed of the selected objects relative to each other. At the same time, the frame does not deteriorate, and the fact that it was manipulated with a change in the speed of movement is completely imperceptible.

To implement this effect, the specialists had to teach the neural network to recognize individual objects and people in the frame, divide the video frames into layers and reproduce the sequential display of these layers at different speeds.

As an example of the operation of this machine algorithm, experts showed a video in which three children jump into the pool at random. The algorithm "corrected" the video, making the jump of the kids almost synchronous.
